Asked by lilaznchikka (88points) October 11th, 2010

I’m a female teacher student and working with a male elementary teacher who always winks at me. I’m only 22 and he is 40 and very handsome. What does the wink mean?

Perhaps merely a gentle display of paternal-like affection? I myself do it occasionally with a co-workers—picked it up from my dad, I think—with no more intent than a friendly acknowledgement. (I don’t think the teacher’s handsomeness necessarily equates to a sexual agenda.)

Could be a nervous twitch, could be something he does with everyone.

I agree with @Austinlad. I was trying to figure out how to say it, but “a gentle display of paternal-like affection” sums it up nicely. There are a lot of people that wink without any deep meaning. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Sounds pretty benign to me. It may be a way to convey silent amusement about the antics of young children to you without laughing outright and maybe hurting a child’s feelings.

You need more body language for it to mean more then a simple way of saying ” hey your alright in my book” like. If he started leaning closer ,and winking, put his hand on your knee and winks then it might mean more.

Well gee, unless he is gay it probably means something like: “Given half a chance I’d love to take you into the supply closet for a bit of…erm…“private tutoring”.
