Do you enjoy your job?

Asked by Aesthetic_Mess (7894points) October 13th, 2010

Whatever it is? If you could be doing something else, what would it be?
I’ve often wondered if people like working in the service industry. Or if taxi drivers like being taxi drivers. Same goes for bus drivers, waiters etc. Do they enjoy their work?

What job? I paint pictures and I sell them. It’s a life choice, and I love it.(Thankfully)

I do like what I do.
If I had to do something else I would want to be a veterinarian or a professional wrestler ;)

Right now, not completely. I wanted to be programming software, but ended up managing Active Directory. Hopefully, my new job will be developing websites or actual programming.

Although, what I really want to be is a storm chaser!

Not as much as I used to. I’m in the process of making a switch. :)

I’ve the best job ever…..retired! But, having said that, i worked for 40 years, and now, i’m dealing with health issues. So, enjoy the moment regardless of what you do!

I am on my second career and do enjoy the challenge of running a business though I would much rather be directing movies. I do make killer home videos though!

I enjoy the job itself but I find some of the personalities that I work with very difficult at times. I certainly don’t want to be here forever.

Not anymore. Unfortunately there is a very high rate of burnout in my field, and I was one of the affected. I “took a break”... and never went back. Now I’m in a sort of employment limbo. Gives me a lot of time to focus on my art, which I love. Doesn’t pay the bills as well as I’d like, though.

I love working in a machine shop. I have to use my brain, yet I still get my hands dirty (and often nicked) enough to feel like I’ve actually done something. I’m good enough at it to earn some respect. And then there is the adrenaline rush of occasional “crashes” and other dangers.

The shop I work in now is full of great people and has fairly good benefits, but only pays about half of what a machinist normally earns. :(

My job is okay. It’s fairly interesting and I currently work at a firm where everyone is quite pleasant and pretty laid back. However, I fell into paralegal work by happenstance, rather than seeking it out as a career. If I’d had a better idea when I was younger of what I wanted to do, I would have studied to be an archaeologist or a museum curator. So, my job is okay, but it’s not what I’d really like to be doing. My Mom thinks I should write, and I enjoy it and have some ability, but I can’t force it.

I like what I do, and I also like to switch it up a lot. I have a job many people would like to retire in, but I like to go to places set things up, start them, and then move on.

I’d like to open a B&B. I think I’d be good at that, and I could do it for a long time.

Life is short, and I want to experience many, many things.

Marketing for a software company: it’s pure bs. But it keeps lots of meat on my table and me do what I like best, which is mentoring the younger people on my staff.

I do like my job, but one of groups is frustrating. If they don’t ask me questions, then I cannot help them. Unfortunately, this means I will have to attend our next tutoring session armed with busy work. They seem to think not having physical work in front of them means I will release them early. No can do.

I was hoping tutoring part-time would allow me to test the teaching waters before committing to get credentials of any sort. I still haven’t made up my mind.

It’s okay.

I’m in the process of making a switch, though (in a related area, from investor relations to equity research).

I’m working in a couple of food-service establishments at the moment, and will probably continue this work until I graduate from university.

I enjoy my job(s) because I choose to enjoy them. You just find that spoonful of sugar in every shift (sometimes literally!).

I am a software engineer and I am sad to say that the changes that have taken place in the technology field since I choose this profession have left me thoroughly disgusted with the entire industry. Additionally, prior to the .com bust the trajectory of my investments and my perceived job security gave me the illusion that I was on track to retire sometime around 2009. As it stands, I am concerned about being able to afford college for my two kids and am even more worried about being able to remain gainfully employed until I am old enough to get at that 401K money without substantial penalty.

My job my whole life has been school. I do enjoy it sometimes.

More or less, pays the bills I suppose.

Not many people can make this statement: “I looked forward to each day as a police officer”.

Why? two reasons: each new day was different than the day before. no two days were ever alike. and, i enjoyed meeting people and helping them, if need be. i also enjoyed arresting the bad guys, in order to make the public safe.

Not many people can truly state their work was enjoyable. i can make this statement.

@bob_ What are you going into?

NaturallyMe's avatar

It’s not too bad. Me and my husband own businesses together. Our time is very flexible, we work and manage the businesses from home and visit the business once or twice a week. So it’s not like a full time job, we have a lot of free time – which is fortunate for me because now i get to do what i really find fun doing – crafty stuff: beading, card making, scrapbook and other craft thingies. I want to start making these things to sell for extra income, but that would be fun and and i wouldn’t call it a job. :)

@Aesthetic_Mess I’m in investor relations. I’m looking to switch to equity research.

I’m a graduate student in neuroscience and I love it more than anything. Nearly every day I’m so excited to get up and go to the lab.

My job and I have a love/hate relationship, but I would loooove to be a professional ice skater! Or maybe, as I get older, a landscaper. (have a lot to learn, though)

Probably 95% of the time I enjoy it. I travel a good bit and I hate to be away from family for long periods of time.

I’ve enjoyed nearly every job I’ve had during my job days. For the last half of my life (so far) I’ve had my favorite job – homemaker.

Gamrz360's avatar

Yes I love my job.

@john65pennington very true….most cannot say they look forward to each day. I looked forward to everyday as a coach and teacher, but not being an insurance adjuster. After all, have ever heard a kid say, “I want to be an insurance adjuster when i grow up!” It was a tough job and a tough skin was necessary to handle the job. But, having said that, there are lots of rewards to helping nice people when they have lost everything.
