Do you use iTunes Genius?

I love Genius. I use it on my computer to have easy background music, and I enjoy it on my iPod when I want to listen to songs of a certain mood.

But almost every time I go to someone else’s home, I find that they don’t have Genius enabled. I was at a party last night and we were trying to create a mix and I got a lecture about how Genius was allowing The Man to choose the music I like. Of course it is, but it’s a very convenient tool.

What are your thoughts on Genius playlists?

I do when running iTunes and want background music as I bustle about the house, new music I haven’t specifically chosen for last.fm tags and playlists.

I think Genius is a good tool is there is a certain type of music you like.

It is less useful if there is a specific singer you like. especially if the singer has a unique brand of music (e.g. Weird Al).

I’ve used it on my iTunes several times and have been pleased with the song choices. I’m not sure of what to make of this new thing on iTunes called Ping though.

I do not use Genius. It seems like a great idea, just not for me. Generally, the type of music I’m in the mood for depends more on lyrics than on the style of the music itself. It’s my understanding that Genius goes for music style, so I haven’t tried it. Perhaps I should try it just to understand what it will do…
