When a Fluther user experiences "Seazenal" changes to his/her user name, what goods carry forward with the change?

Asked by Kayak8 (16457points) October 17th, 2010

Losing the lurve makes a lot of psychological sense to me (and I love the double entendre of “Seazen”), but it appears that the topics of interest must be re-loaded from scratch while awards etc do seem to move with the user.

Is this done by hand? Are they rapidly re-earned? Do the Fluther Gods assist with moving the awards?

I think it depends on how the person went about the new account. I’ve seen some that have just changed their username and everything from their old username stayed with the new name. I believe I saw one that started a new username but then had the new username merged with the old usernames information (I think I did, but I could be wrong). In that case, I believe the Fluther Gods did all the transfering of information.

Zen makes new usernames (and therefore new accounts), so he starts over from scratch each time (lurve, awards, people he’s following, people following him, etc) all start out fresh again. So he has to actually start following people again, we have to follow him again, and he has to add all his topic back with each new account.

I think he does it so he can lurve all of us again. ;-)

Well, Hellfire he has earned a lot of awards in the last several days since going into witness protection . . .

I didn’t even notice to begin with, because the avatar was the same. I noticed the strangely low lurve score before I noticed the new name. I like it though.

If you close one account and open another under a new name, nothing transfers over… you have to start from scratch. Now, if we change the name on your existing account for you, everything stays the same except the new name.

Yeah – but 1000 lurve in three days means you lurve me, you really lurve me. And trust me: if anyone thinks I’m gaming the system – they’d know. I am too dumb to do that anyway. I have my reasons for closing and rebooting – but I’ve noticed some that simply ask to change their names (a la marinlife, shpadoinkle or dp/pd at the time – even Wunday was a completely different name – kept all his 35million lurve) or even reset their lurve to zero, but keeping all the “awards” – I have a medal from my service, another from a marathon – and my kids have produced several awards which I proudly display. I am in no need of fluther “awards” and I don’t play video games anyway – except for chess and scrabble.

As I’ve said many times: I don’t see well enough to bother with little things like awards, avatars and stuff – and I just like to ask silly questions and have conversations – like wis.dm and the fluther of old.

But for those who like the mansions and attention and awards and shit – fine. It’s all good.

(I am only responsible for entertaining myself – no-one else – so humour me my silly restarting accounts – and enjoy the extra 100 lurve I can give my friends. I add them as soon as I see them – and those who wish to – add me. There are so few of us vets anyway – within a day I’ve gone through the motions. I live here anyway. Time for a snack. And to check on the sex tape question – auggie was about to tell us about her’s.)

Auggie has a sex tape? I wasn’t going to bother with that Q, now I guess I’d better get over there!
