Why would a collection agency send me a letter demanding money for a debt my ex-husband owes?

Asked by chyna (51298points) October 18th, 2010

The letter was actually sent to my mother’s address demanding money for a debt he owes to a computer company. We have been divorced 12 years and he is remarried. Is this just to embarrass him or did they think I would pay it?

Collection agencies are shameless. They will go after anybody ever connected to the debtor in hopes of scaring them and cowing them into paying. Call aan attorney if you’re really worried, but if you didn’t co-sign anything, blow it off.

They are grasping at straws.

Next time they call, give them the number of your state’s attorney. They will stop calling you then.

They are grasping at the straws, but I wouldn’t blow them off. Read this website to find out what to do with shameless collection agency. Worked for me.
