An embellisher, an instigator, or a chatter box, which would you want to have to engage daily?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) October 19th, 2010

Would you rather have to engage on a daily basis an embellisher, someone who if the tree fell and hit the car with a glancing blow they will make it seem as if the tree just missed killing everyone? Would you rather it be a instigator, someone who if you were ask about what you thought of the new super and you said what you honestly thought but they go spread it around to those who like the new super or to the super him/herself to kick a hornets nest? Would you want to have to interact with chatter box, someone who loves the sound of their own voice or is afraid of silence to the point they talk on and on and even go back over the same story they told 10 min. ago with out missing a beat?

I have all three types at work and they love to talk to me for some reason.

Not fond of any if them, frankly – but I really dislike chatterboxes in general.

I’m in marketing, so I work with all three types every day. (sigh)
I guess the chatterbox makes me craziest.

This is a little like “Rock, Paper, Scissors” I think. Might be a fun game.

Don’t like any of these types, but I find the instigator the most troublesome overall. Chatterbox is annoying, but I can turn that off if I need to. And it’s sometimes fun to catch an embellisher mid-embellishment.

Instigator. The instigator sets traps which you can eventually learn to avoid falling into. The embellisher and the chatterbox…well…in the end you can’t really do anything other than tell them to shut up.

That’s rarely effective.

I think I would rather deal with the embellisher. Once I’ve learned that this is their pattern, I can mentally take everything with the proverbial grain of salt. An instigator would make me mad and a chatterbox would make me lose my mind.

This a quite a wrought question. Do you mind telling me how you came up with it?

I would be like @tedibear for the same reasons.

The embelisher would be the most fun, if only for the Q and A portion of the embelishment. The instigator creates harm, the embelisher and the chatterbox are harmless, but fun to mess with.

I love embelishers. I just egg them on with more and more questions. I know they are full of bull but that’s half the fun of it all. Story telling is a gift. I tell some whoppers for my students. There is one about me being in the witness protection program and having been a former CIA operative. There is the one about accidently killing that Chipmunk Alvin. There is also that story about the lightening killing the cat in the living room. I love a story that makes eveyone lean forward before you say at the end, “And then I woke up!”

I guess birds of a feather DO flock together!!! So give me the embellisher. The other two would make me wanna poke an eye out!

I wouldn’t mind the embellisher – they don’t have to talk a lot, like the chatter box and aren’t mean like the instigator (who is my least favorite of the types given) and I’d know that they’re embellishing and wouldn’t really take ‘em at their word.

By the way, every time I wrote an ad in my agency days—and for that matter, every time I write a piece of marketing content now—I’m an embellisher. Do other people tolerate me? Well, I never lost a job. ;-)

@Austinlad Are you embellishing? ;-)

@wundayatta Do you mind telling me how you came up with it? I was thinking why I cringe when I have to deal with friends, family or anyone on the job, and it was because most usually always try to get me caught up in something; they are either instigating, trying to use me as some hapless in their attack on someone by twisting my words around to make it sound as if I support their angle. They are chatterboxes that go on and on ranting about what this person did to them, how their kids don’t listen, their man cheated, etc. Hard to concentrate when they are venting on and on as if the more they tell you the more the person they are venting about will realize they were wrong and make it right. Usually when they are ranting they embellish the facts to make the person they are ranting about seem like more of a douche than they maybe were. Lately I just want to sequester myself away to get the same thing here cyberly on Fluther LOL LOL
