What is a deal breaker when it comes to a possible S/O for you?

Asked by InkyAnn (2441points) October 19th, 2010

What are things a possible S/O can do, say, wear, etc… that makes you think ”nope cant be with this person”?

Here are some of my “deal breakers”:

Wearing anything other then a specific style of shoes.

Being a messy eater (with the exception of foods like ribs)

Having poor hygiene (if I can see ear wax in your ears im done)

Wears “whitey tighties” (unless your willing to convert)

Has “long hair” (cant be below the top of your ears)

Talking like your “from the ghetto” (” yo dawg, that shits wack! Fuk dem hoes”)

Please no condescending answers like “it shouldnt/doesnt matter to you/me”

A simple, “I dont have any” will suffice.

Two big things for me were always how they treat children and animals.

If she implements relationship rules that she heard from Lauren Conrad on the hills, sex in the city, or desperate housewives it won’t for me… that stuff is not real world and it’s designed to make you fail so I don’t even bother cause I know the relationship will be full of Drama.

Blondesjon's avatar

I high pitched, squeaky, little girl voice and any type of shortcomings in the sense of humor department.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. Deal breakers to me are:
• Lack of trust.
• Lack of honesty.
• Lack of logical thinking.
• Drug use.
• Aftermarket boobs.
• Alcoholic.
• Chain smoker (and no plans to quit).
• Over 5ft 6in tall.
• Over 135lb*
• Previous children.
• Was not born her natural sex (have to be able to have children).
• No desire for kids.
• Bra wearers (and no desire to quit)

*Conditional to height to weight proportions.

chyna's avatar

Poor dental hygiene would be a deal breaker for me. And no sense of humor. And tobacco use. And cruelty to any animal or to their parents or old people in general.

@SuperMouse Really? Mullets? Um, sure, I agree with that. :-)

SuperMouse's avatar

@chyna a gal has to have her priorities! I might make an exception for a really wicked mullet because one does not stroll into a mullet like that and the effort it takes is worth something.

“Wearing anything other then a specific style of shoes.”

Are you saying that a prospect has to always wear the same specific style or else no deal?

How could I forget the biggest deal breaker of all for me?: refuses to dye her hair in the colors and design of our glorious American falg! :-P

Edit: I forgot to add, must have my first and last names tattooed across her forehead. :-D

Im sorry I cant stand shoes like, Jordans, Nike, Rebok, K*Swiss, “boots” unless they are for working out. I prefer convers or “skate shoes”. I like a guys of a certain type/style. In my personal experiance what you wear reflects what your into or what “type” of person you are. Most men that wear the shoes I dont like are not into the same things as I am and act a different way then what I like. Plus I think shoes of that style are hideous.

Other than obvious things, such as likes having sex with the dead or is a crack whore, there is not really anything. just the obvious stuff, dishonest, cheats and so on.

@Inked_up_chic SHOES?? LOL So if a person met all your criteria and you really liked him a lot but he went to put on REEBOKS you’d forget it? How funny!

Brian1946's avatar

@Inked_up_chic

I see your point .

In my experience shoes can confuse.

I once wore ice skates to a date and was rejected because she thought I was a figure skater.
Little did she realize that I was a hockey player who was always ready for a game anywhere at anytime!

InkyAnn's avatar

No if he met every criteria of mine I can pass on some things I dont care for, I was just saying… heres an example of what I ment: here is a pic of some of my boys ignore the guns these are the type of guys im into because they are all into everything I am and its the clothing style that come with it. You would never catch any of them wearing the shoes I mentioned. Its jsut an easy way for me to narrow down who I would like and who I wouldnt.

Smoking is the main one for me… ERRRRR the occasional joint not being a problem but smoking daily would be a no, no…… :-/
Also the “Talking like your” “from the ghetto” (” yo dawg, that shits wack! Fuk dem hoes”) Can’t stand that….. OH yeah & poor hygiene! :-/

:-/
Although I think my dress sense may be a little conservative :-/

InkyAnn's avatar

@mama_cakes oh I dont doubt my criteria will change, im just speaking as how I am now.

Oh and BTW I did make the excpetion to the cloths and shoes once, I was at a bar, a guy started talking to me, he was wearing boots, and cloths i really dont find appeling, but he was everything I wanted in a guy so I let it go. we have been together over a year now. thing is he was in his work boots and work cloths and i didnt know that, when i saw him the next day guess what he had on. convers and dressed in what i like (not knowing my preference) that right there proved my point that the guys im into dress a certain way.

@Scooby how so?

If the person was truly amazing except for one thing, deal-breakers could probably be worked out, but for me, some things that instantly turn me way off are:

Smoking (I can deal with occasional marijuana, but regular tobacco smoker, forget it).
Use of hard drugs.
Low confidence (That whole “I’m a piece of shit” thing turns me off quite a bit).
Poor hygiene turns me off, but it could probably be worked on…
Long hair turns me off. If they weren’t willing to cut it, it’d be hard to find them that attractive.

Scooby's avatar

@Inked_up_chic

Smart but casual then……. That’s me :-/

InkyAnn's avatar

@DominicX agree on everything but smoking cigarettes i smoke them

crisw's avatar

Smoking. Smoking. And did I mention smoking?

Stupidity, right-wingedness, fundamentalism of any stripe, dislike for animals.

Oh, and smoking.

I will immediately break up with anyone who asks me to marry them…..I state that rule from the beginning. It always surprises me when someone breaks it.

InkyAnn's avatar

@janedelila why is that? are you just against marriage?

Deja_vu's avatar

If they are hateful of others, or extremely negative.

Deja_vu's avatar

@Inked_up_chic I agree with your list. Shoes are so important to me. Only certain shoes I find morally acceptable :)

InkyAnn's avatar

@Deja_vu Really? like what ones?

Haleth's avatar

No deal-breakers here. But there are some deal-makers.

Deja_vu's avatar

@Inked_up_chic I hate sneakers or running shoes on a guy if they aren’t excersizing (huge pet peeve). I like guys that wear either boots, skate shoes, converse, even certain thongs are okay if appropiate. No birkenstocks. Well I think they should care about their footwear too. It’s just a weird thing of mine.

xxii's avatar

@Inked_up_chic I’m against me being married. I’m not good at it.

weeveeship's avatar

Being imposing. I understand that there are “gives and takes” in any relationship, but it is really annoying when someone else is dictating what you do. It is even worse if they do this using guilt trips.

augustlan's avatar

As has already been said, stupidity and cruelty. That’s about it.

ucme's avatar

She must have her own hair & teeth. Shallow but fair :¬)

InkyAnn's avatar

@Haleth what are the deal makers?

InkyAnn's avatar

@weeveeship oh I know that type of guy allllll to well :p

partyparty's avatar

Aster's avatar

@Kardamom men get their feet exfoliated??!?

Kardamom's avatar

@Aster

Men (and women) can exfoliate their own feet at home with one of those nice smelling salt scrubs like this and it makes the skin feel smooth as a baby’s behind. When you have nice feet, your S/O is more likely to want to give you a foot rub, which is likely to be one of the deal makers.
