Is it normal to be 26 yrs old and still be afraid of ghosts?

Asked by Lorenita (735points) October 20th, 2010

Ok, its kinda embarrasing, but I’m 26 and somehow still afraid of ghosts, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and if I start thinking about the paranormal world i just can’t go back to sleep cuz I’m so afraid… Opinions? recommendations?

I don’t suppose it is any less normal than to be 67 and still have an irrational fear of spiders. The whole definition of irrational is without rational explanation.

I’m 39, just moved into an old farmhouse, and hear strange noises. I wonder…...

You’re normal. :)

I’m 50 and still fear ONE ghost story from my childhood thanks to a very weird incident in fourth grade. Really – I cannot sleep anywhere near a good-sized mirror.

Perhaps you should read a few books that debunk such beliefs. Since ghosts do not exist, there isn’t any reason to be afraid of them. Try anything by James Randi.

I am in the same boat. I know that I will never be able to live without roommates because my mind plays tricks on me. Maybe I watched too many scary movies back when I was younger?

I can’t recall even fearing ghosts, even as a child. I had no idea others really feared them.

Fear holds no grudges, of course it’s okay.

Ok. I am almost forty. I am afraid of ghosts. My father past away last year,. I have this feeling that he might be or has visited. I had a dream .In my dream he knocked on the door walked in. We said to him,” What are you doing here?” He said,” I don’t know .” He grabbed my shoulder and would not let go. Freaked out , I woke up scared. I shook it off, but then heard the front door slam. I was awake.

Mankind has feared the dead for centuries. I don’t think you got much to be worried about, despite the prominent lack of belief in this stuff in modern societies.
