Can non-friends on Facebook see my wall via the messaging system?

Asked by That0neguy01 (209points) October 20th, 2010

I heard that if someone (friend and/or not friend) messages you, and you reply, they can see your wall for 30 days. Is this true? and if yes, how can i prevent that?

I think, It’s not true. I always message to whom I want, but the sent message is only visible to him/her. Not visible to all people regardless of friends or non-friends of mine or their.

I’m 99% sure that being able to view a profile is solely reliant upon their privacy settings and has nothing to do with exchanging e-mail.

And oddly, I just went on Facebook to see if I could test it, and there was a response to an e-mail I sent a cousin back in April. We are not ‘friends’ yet, so I clicked on his profile. Here is what the message said:

People who aren’t friends with Ed see only some of his profile information. If you know Ed personally, send him a message or add him as a friend.

Because he has a privacy setting in place, the e-mail exchange doesn’t override it.

If you are really concerned about it, there is also a privacy setting that will only allow friends to message you. Since people that aren’t your friend wouldn’t be able to send you a message, you wouldn’t have to worry about it since you wouldn’t be responding to their messages.

That would depend on their privacy settings. I think that thing about being able to see a person’s limited data or entire wall is just a myth.

You cannot see anything unless you’re their friend.

Messaging them will not allow you to see any part of their profile, only the parts that are required by facebook, such as picture and name.

It doesn’t work, I’ve tried this for the sole purpose of trying to peek into their profile, but I wasn’t able to see anything except the bare essentials.
