Do most women really have such distain for Daisy Dukes or I am missing the words of its fans?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) October 21st, 2010

Do women really have such distain for Daisy Dukes? It seems whenever a gal (a slender sexy gal) is in the area in Daisy Dukes there is no kind words for her (or I am just not hearing it). Opinion quickly seem to form like she is a stripper, trailer trash, hoochie, tactless, nasty, slut, classless, etc. Or, is it just women in suppose ”real bodies” that hate Daisy Dukes?

Might be like guys in pink shirts.

You know they hate the shirt, they just want the chicks.
That having been said, we can’t really do without… can we?

I never see that style of dress anymore. What part of town do you hang out in?

The outfit is fine in an appropriate setting. When it is worn in the dead of winter with a pair of Ugg boots, it’s another matter.

As for opinions formed, you left out fashion-follower despite better judgement and will hopefully change with maturity and realization that it isn’t all that comfortable, which is the only one that crosses my mind.

I see them all the time. I am a graduate TA and about ½ of all the undergrad women I teach wear them…all year long.
And yes, @Pied_Pfeffer , the frequently pair them with Ugg boots, shirts with not-so-clever euphemisms and big hoop earrings.

Why do you assume bad things about the women who are complaining about the attire rather than the wearer of the inappropriate attire? Are you thinking with the little head?

I don’t assume anything about the wearer, except that we disagree on clothing styles. I happen to be from a school of thought that leaving a little more to the imagination is better than letting it all hang out. I’m not so stupid as to believe that automatically makes someone in short-shorts a slut or a stripper or trash… I just don’t care for the way the outfit looks. We live in a hyper sexualized society, I see 12 year old girls in shorts like that. I don’t care for it.
As for your thinly veiled insult about “real bodies”, I do not view women who dress that way as any less “real” than I am. Unless they have actually had surgical alterations, because then their body is certainly less natural than mine.. but irrelevant. I also can’t help but get the impression that you are using “real bodies” as code word for fat, which I highly suspect is true. However, I can’t help but wonder if you would be so quick to jump to the defense of women with “real bodies” as you put it, wearing those same shorts or this only applies to the ones that give you a hard on.

@marinelife As for your thinly veiled insult about “real bodies”, I do not view women who dress that way as any less “real” than I am. That is why it was in “quotes” because that is what _they _ coined themselves with. I am tired of all that sugarcoating PC crap, I prefer to call it what it is, if they are overweight they maybe to shame to admit it or in denial but I am not. It was a thin dig from them to say that “real women” are their size, slightly to greatly overweight. To say they are the “real” women as in average or normal sized maybe they feel they have license not to do anything healthier. If you could have seen the women ragging those who wear Dukes you certainly would not mistaken them for athletes or even those who jog every morning.

@TheOnlyNeffie However, I can’t help but wonder if you would be so quick to jump to the defense of women with “real bodies” as you put it, wearing those same shorts or this only applies to the ones that give you a hard on. Well, let me take the wonder away. Any gal wearing Daisy Dukes has the right to wear them as any gal wearing a moo moo does, and some of the gals included in my question do not do Daisy Dukes well (but they believe they do) but they take the risk doing so. They can wear it and I can turn away and look elsewhere as they pass. It is not a big stretch at all to say any woman like that is low on the arousal scale for if they commanded the same sex appeal as more slender and fit women they would be all over the inside pages of magazines (even women’s magazines) instead.
