Travel insurance for Europe?

Asked by Ajaykumar2010 (11points) October 24th, 2010

My entire gang of 20 friends are going for a trip to Europe. Can you suggest what insurance we can take?

Check if you get automatic travel insurance if you book your tickets using your credit card.

How about getting in touch with your insurance company to see what advice they have to offer? If that doesn’t pan out, there are group travel insurance polices available. Here is one site that does.

If you all are using a travel agency, the agent should also be able to provide advice as well, particularly since you all will be in various countries.

We have always used TravelGuard.com. I am a firm believer that if you purchase travel insurance, you will not need it. We have a friend whose son was backpacking in Europe, and was hit by a hit-and-run driver in Italy. The cost of medical treatment, the unexpected additional airline ticket, hotel expense, etc. for his mother to go there, the medical airlift back to the States, etc. cost them about $35,000 when it was all said and done. Should you need medical care, the insurance provides assistance with finding an English-speaking doctor.

On a lesser catastrophic level, the insurance also covers replacing lost luggage and clothing.
