Do you have any good recipes for Chickpea Burgers?

Asked by rooeytoo (26981points) October 24th, 2010

I usually brown an onion, chili and some green pepper in oil in a pan. Meanwhile throw a can of chick peas into the food processor with a piece or two of bread, add a little oil, an egg, pepper and some garlic salt. When the onions, etc. are soft add them to the mix, form into patties and fry. They are very tasty. But I wonder if any of you jellies have some other interesting additions or suggestions?

The recipe you quoted sounds great. My husband has been asking me to find a recipe for a veggie/bean burger like this. I can’t wait to try this.

@AmWiser – yep it’s good and it works with lentils too although it’s a little more difficult to get them to stick together.

Guess no one else makes them. I thought with all the vegetarians in Fluther, I would get some good ideas!

Cheers

Sorry it took so long, I had to find it.
2 cups cooked and drained chickpeas
⅓ cup finely chopped onion
¼ cup finely chopped red bell pepper
1 tablespoon diced green chilies, or red chili flakes
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon each toasted sesame seeds, plus pumpkin seeds plus sunflower seeds
dash of salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons peanut oil
4 slices fontina cheese
4 whole wheat hamburger buns
lettuce, pickle and tomato for garnish

Mash the chickpeas with a fork, leave lumpy, add onion, bell pepper, chili, cumin, three kinds of seeds and salt and pepper, mix well.
Divide into four parts, and flatten into patties
Fry in the peanut oil until brown, turn over, top with cheese slices and cook until bottom is brown.
Serve on open-face bun, top empty bun half with tomato, lettuce and pickles

Here’s one that sounds really great from Allrecipes.com. It’s similar to falafel, but it incorpporates peanut butter and soy sauce into the mix. Kind of a Thai twist. See is here

@Kardamom – that one does sound interesting, I will try it this week. Thanks!
