Best website to find travel deals?

Asked by jewels10 (58points) April 2nd, 2008 from iPhone

I’m looking to take a 3 day vacation to cancun or somewhere close to there. What is the best website to find the best (cheapest) deals? I want to go sometime in May. Thank you.

There’s cheap, and then there’s cheap and good. The two are NOT always the same. There are some good deals on http://www.boomvoyage.com/. Because of the exchange rate vs. the dollar, Mexico is still a good bet for bargains. If you want to go further afield, Buenos Aires, Argentina also has a favorable exchange rate and the tango clubs! Check it out: http://www.boomvoyage.com/p/p.aspx?mlid=5

Google your proposed destination, then take it from there. But remember the cheapest option may not always work out best.
Once you get to where you want to be mingle with the locals they usually carry a lot of local knowledge that you might not find in the guide books.
Oh one big tip, get good travel insurance…

For flights, I think Yahoo’s farechase.com is the best.

sidestep.com is ok but I typically check all the above plus kayak, travelocity etc. then do some basic googling. Seems no one outfit is always cheapest. The best deals are typically ‘last minute’ when it appears the buyer of whatever organization overcommitted and needs to fill rooms/seats fast to cut losses. (though stick with ‘reputable’ sources unless you’re REALLY an adventurer – billy-bob’s travel may be offering rooms in the swampland).
