Do you ever get tired of life?

Asked by mustve_misplaced_lifes_map (76points) November 1st, 2010

You get sick of reading and you can watch the TV in front of the couch you’re curled up on. Get sick of sitting and you can go for a run outside.
Get sick of your job and you can (usually) quit, and even if you can’t you have shifts and then breaks.
Get sick of home you go on vacation. Sick of vacation you come home.

Do you ever get sick of all of it? Not want to do any of it?
I do. But I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to end it, just want to pause it… and that need just keeps growing.
And if you do, what do you do about it?

I get sick of It sometimes. Sick of staring at the same old boring things. In my opinion It’s not really being sick of life, I just get bored with what’s in my life.

Welcome to my world.

I fix this feeling with sitting in the park on blanket with a 40 and a good book.

ZAGWRITER's avatar

@johnpowell Dude, I like your style.

I personally try to fix this by writing. And playing with my kids. What problem in the world can’t be put into its proper perspective by interacting with children and/or escaping to your own world of words? Works, a majority of the time for me.

Yes I do and, sometimes, I even allow myself to indulge in a little self-pity, for about a nanosecond no more, and then I get over it. That usually works. I’m not a wallower. But taking a walk is a good way to clear your head if you need more. Just the physical activity of it is enough to get yourself out of your own head which is where this kind of thinking, of course, is all happening. Do something physical.

No,I don’t.When life gets tough,I get tougher,That attitude has served me well and I am pretty happy because of it.;)

I find myself wondering what the purpose of life is. This occurs after long hours of homework and lectures at school. Family life gets boring and even going out with friends becomes redundant. It’s hard to find motivation.

jrpowell's avatar

@naivete :: Have you ever worked at a shitty job to get food money? That puts school in perspective.

Afos22's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille how do you get tough on life?

@mustve_misplaced_lifes_map I have had this experience as well. Two things come to mind. Have you considered God? Why you were created and fulfilling that. Second: maybe you could consider doing some charity work. It is very fulfilling and can help with “that” feeling.

I get bored with it sometimes. Doing the same things over and over. I take it as a sign to make a change. New job, new hobbies, a holiday; something to break the monotony or add some new interest.

Yes, unfortunately. Nothing excites me anymore. I lack motivation. Working a shitty job made me want to kill myself, so I quit and went back to school. Now… Eh. Fuck it. Just “yes”.

DominicX's avatar

Kind of indicates that you’re not doing the right things. If you’re sick of doing something, ask yourself why are you even doing it in the first place? And I don’t mean life in general, I mean what you are doing in life.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

@DominicX Hard for some people to do when absolutely everything feels wrong. When I do that, I end up asking myself why I’m still alive.

Eh.

DominicX's avatar

That sounds like more of an issue of mental state than it does with your actions.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

They’re intertwined, I suppose.

@Afos22 -I said when life gets tough,I get tougher, meaning more resilient.I have made up my mind to be happy regardless of any negative things that have come my way.I have had my share too, like anyone else. You will not find me whining about it or blaming others either;)

Yes . . . I feel like nothing is right, nothing is worth it, the world is gray, etc. etc. Then I get periods where everything is beautiful, exciting, interesting . . . the trick is knowing that it will pass, in time. Admittedly the gray periods last way longer than the fun ones, but they’re worth waiting for. In my experience.

DominicX's avatar

Honestly I feel like some of this is just describing the symptoms of depression.

YARNLADY's avatar

No, I sometimes get tired, but a good nights sleep clears that up. Otherwise, I pride myself on being happy every day.

I probably would if God had not invented Beer.

Sometimes, but I vent to those who get me and I move forward.

That you don’t know what to do with your life, spells out exactly what you need to do right now: figure out what to do with it. Seek counselling help if necessary.

Is there some way you wish this world were slightly different?

Humanity is a really big snowball, and it takes a lot of pushing by many people to move it. How can you join in the pushing? Given your values, beliefs, and personality, where could you apply yourself, so that you are at your maximum effectiveness?

At the end of the day, what you do should be fun. You just need to realise that watching television, exercising, reading, and vacations, aren’t the only ways to have it.

jrpowell's avatar

@DominicX :: You just went from high school to the most expensive college in the country. Pretty sure your parents pay for all your stuff. Get back to me when quitting your job means you can’t pay rent and buy food. The real world can be a bitch and you aren’t in it yet.

DominicX's avatar

@johnpowell

Where did I tell anyone to quit their job? If those are the consequences of quitting a job, then that would not be advised.

Besides, I thought we were talking more about losing interest in previous interests or a general “jadedness” as opposed to a “tired of a shity job that you have to keep” kind of thing.

@Blondesjon Man invented beer. god invented cannabis

I think everyone, even with the best job on the planet, or the most exciting life, gets tired of “it all”. during these times you should create meaning for yourself in whatever way feels right to you. take up a craft that you don’t think you can do, try something you never have. give back to others. if that doesn’t work, and you still feel lost, maybe it’s time to take everything you own, get rid of it and find a nice backpack and pair of shoes to leave society with.

Actually, I just realized that you bringing my fucking personal life into this question was completely uncalled for. Your response has been flagged. Thanks for your time.
