Have you ever wished for something, got it and regretted it?

Asked by Cruiser (40449points) November 10th, 2010

There is that age old saying “Be careful for what you wish for”. Have you ever “wished” for something, your wish came true and you went “WTH!!”

Any wishes backfire out there?? What did you wish for that just didn’t work out the way your hoped and what did you do about it??

Had a good friend who was going through a very difficult time at work, on top of which had some family problems. I wished – prayed, actually – that everything would work out for him, regardless of the impact on our friendship, and I did what I could to help him. Ultimately, he was fine. But as he worked these things out, he began lashing out at everyone at work – including me, the one person who was still sticking up for him. The things he said nearly cost me my career and certainly ended our friendship. I’m glad he’s OK now, but still am really hurt by what he did.

Yeah, not to have to work at my old job. I wanted out so bad, I got a new job. Went to work for a month at the new company, come to find out they had no money and they weren’t able to pay me.

Fortunately I found a new job right away, and i am finally seeing some of the money the previous company owes me after like 11 months. I had to file a claim through the labor commissioner =/

“Never regret anything because at one point it was exactly what you wanted” ~ I suppose this quote doesn’t apply to @perg ‘s situation? My first boyfriend was a fine example of this, I was dating him at the wrong time in my life (if that makes any sense?) . I don’t regret it though, it was fun while it lasted.

@interweb Good point – I don’t know that I quite regret it because my friend did end up OK and, despite his actions, so did I. My wish sure as hell did backfire, though.

A couple years ago I kept wishing time to go by faster. I didn’t want to be in school so I would just sit there wishing It would pass quicker. Now I have my wish, 3 years later and It’s still hasn’t slowed down. :(

Kinda sorta. I once threw a nickel into the ocean and made a wish to be able to fall in romantic love with my best friend. We fell in love, we got married, we built a business and then… we fell back into platonic love. No regrets except the spell didn’t last.

No. I try not to wish for things, it saves me the regret of wasting a wish.

I wanted a horse as long as I could remember, and I bought one when I got my first real job. I asked the owners to take it back a few weeks later, because I discovered I would rather have a car.

No, nothing memorable enough anyway.

I remember finally getting my first boat and it was awesome!! Then slowly it got old and less and less people wanted to make the trek up to the marina to go for a spin. Then some A-hole stole of all things the boat cover. Then costs started to add up and Sundays at home became more attractive and then that happy day came when I sold that boat!

Yeah, getting what you’ve always wanted, get bored with it, break it, or realized it wasn’t like it said on T.V., throw it away or put it somewhere to collect dust for years, have buyer’s remorse and mope that everything you’ve ever had doesn’t last and is a big, fat lie.
