Do I have to get naked for a cardiology appointment?

Asked by awomanscorned (11261points) November 12th, 2010 from iPhone

I’ve never been to one. Do they check out your heart via stethescope through your clothes or what? I just like to be mentally prepared. Some appointments you know when you have to strip. I’m not sure about this one.

You don’t have to…but…you know…nothing’s stopping you. ;-)

No. If they have to do an EKG you will have to take your shirt off. Other than that they’re pretty considerate.

Stethescopes work best when they used against skin. I would question the necessity of need to remove your bottoms, but they might ask you to wear only a gown on top.

No scrubbing, but they use a jelly that’s kind of cold.

I don’t believe you have to undress.

No scrubbing unless you are greasy enough the leads won’t stick, but they can be pretty chilly by themselves.

If you are having just a routine physical, you will be asked to put on one of those open in the back impossible to tie hospital gowns with your undies still on. If you are getting an EKG they will need access to your chest and back but I don’t see why you would need to be bra-less for that either. Maybe wear or bring a wireless bra just in case. Call your doc or nurse to get the full heads up before you go!

I don’t think so, but you are supposed to be naked to fluther.

Are you in compliance?

I don’t think that you have to.

Oh, jeez, one time I was scheduled for a chest x-ray. It was my first one. Normally, I go commando. Anyhow, when I went, the one x-ray tech (there were two) handed me a hospital gown and told me to take off my outer clothing and bra and put on the gown. After getting changed, I walked out of the change room, making sure that the back of my gown was closed, so, that they couldn’t see my bare arse. Anyhow, they went ahead and took an x-ray of my front whilst I was standing, then one tech told me to turn around. I am pretty sure that I had to do something with my arms/hands, so, I wasn’t able to keep the back of my gown closed. I turned, let go of the back and felt a breeze. The back was wide open and there wasn’t a damn thing that I could do about it. Awk-waarrd and embarrassing. I was supposed to be wearing gotchies!

You have to disrobe to the waist. You might have to take off your necklace. They may do an ultrasound (an echocardiogram). They just use alcohol swabs to clean where they are going to stick the holders for the leads for the EKG.

If it bothers you, could you ask for a female technician to give the test?

Shirt and bra off, hospital gown on. You’re covered. For female patients, an nurse should be in the room at the time of the examination.

I just had a full heart work up with radiological imaging done and didn’t have to get naked. They just had me put a top gown on. But I wore my own comfy pants. The cardiologist will probably be the same…top and bra off.. top gown on.

No, except ot possibly remove your shirt for an EKG/Echocardiogram to be done…
