Anyone have any idea how much it costs to get rotator cuff replacement surgery?

Asked by Captain_Tetanus (205points) April 4th, 2008

my dad needs it, but he won’t pursue it. He’s a veteran but he’s terrified of veteran’s hospitals. Just curious if it was affordable.

Surgeries are prohibitively expensive when not run through insurances. I think that the largest part of the expense for something like a rotator cuff surgery would be in the many months of intensive rehab. I’d look into the VA hospital route, and see if some of his concerns couldn’t be addressed beforehand. Best wishes to your father.

You can call an orthopedic surgeon and get an estimate of the cost of surgery. but GP is correct, there will be several weeks or months of therapy afterward. Does your father have insurance?

of course not, and no one in their right mind would insure him. He’s 60, he smokes.
He really needs this surgery.

As for the rehab, he’d go for a few sessions then he’d skip the rest and do it himself after he got the idea what they wanted him to do, so that would make it cheaper maybe.

I’ll call the orthopeic surgeon about it. I’m 29, I had no idea who to call about that sort of thing. I pictured calling the hospital and getting transferred around.

Thanks.

VA hospital are better then in the past. He really should check them out. They did heart surgery on my father in law and he is doing great.

Dr Hat puts his pinky to the corner of his lip – “One MILLION DOLLARS!”

Number 2 leans over and whispers something into his ear.

Dr Hat looks a little flustered, but then faces the camera again, and once again puts his pinky to the corner of his lip – “One-hundred BILLION DOLLARS!”

Bottom-line: don’t really know
