How do I keep Bejeweled 2 Deluxe in windowed mode?

Asked by Booknight (704points) November 15th, 2010

To play in windowed mode I have to launch the game (go to options and untick full screen) twice. The first time, I get the message:
No Windowed Mode
Windowed mode is only available if your desktop is running in either 16 bit or 32 bit color mode, which it is not.
I quit, exit and relaunch. When I relaunch I can get windowed mode but it is back in full screen the next time I play.
Why do I get that message when I try to untick full screen option during first launch but not during second launch? And how do I keep it in windowed mode?
The game is a free download so I can’t uninstall and reinstall.
I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

Just to clarify, it’s not through Steam, right?

I have that same free version and it doesn’t happen to me.

The game download is from PopCap Games Inc (US). They were giving 10,000 free to celebrate 10 years.
I’m not familiar with Steam, so I don’t know if they are associated with PopCap Games.

@Booknight It’s really just a distribution system that PopCap puts there games through, but is not exclusive to all PopCap stuff. More about Steam is here.

Have you tried hitting “alt+enter” within game to switch within full screen and windowed? I know that works with my copy of Peggle, another PopCap game.

@dverhey
Thank you ! Hitting alt+enter did switch the game from full screen to windowed mode. That is much easier than double launch.

But it’s a case of good news-bad news.

The good news is it did work !
The bad news is it caused the browser icons on my taskbar to stop working (lol). No worries….. I fixed that by deleting and replacing them.

Thanks again for a solution but I think I’d better stick with the double launch :)
