When you're not doing anything else, what preoccupies your mind these days?

Asked by wundayatta (58722points) November 24th, 2010

What do you find yourself thinking about over and over when your mind isn’t occupied with other tasks? Describe it in as much detail as you feel comfortable with.

Is the same topic as it was six months ago?

I think about anything that pops into my mind. I’m never bored as long as I have my thoughts. I will think about what my cat is doing or how he plans to torture us more. I think about things that have happened or what something means. I think about books I’ve read and movies I’ve seen. I think about what might be going on inside someone else’s head. I think about things that are coming up soon. I think about inventions I could make, stories or songs I want to write, and theory’s. I also think about bad things that I won’t go into detail about. Right now I am thinking about turkey day, how vicious my cat is, and who is down stairs.

People I am interested in being with, their issues with being tied up with others and bad communication skills. My future PhD work. And no, save for the latter, these two people that come to mind weren’t in my life half a year ago.

My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives. God darnit, I use my tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore! XD

Oftentimes that’s whatever I do when I am doing something else. Work, creative projects, entertainment, music, what I’ll cook tonight, things like that.

I am a big ‘what if-er’ – without practical concerns, I find that my mind always reverts to hypothetical scenarios.

Sometimes, just sometimes, something good will come from it.

I am reading these in my spare time.

I was up late last night researching what college I should go to if I end up getting out of the navy in two years.

Right now my mind is caught up with the next “big project”... I’m self employed so these big projects are always very exciting to me, and always entirely down to my efforts as to whether they work or pay-off… and always all-consuming!

My mind races when I’m in the throws of the creative part, but I have to let it race and race until it slows down before I write any of it down – I find that writing down my ideas stops any more from coming (on that particular topic), so I have to allow myself to think and think and think until I feel I can think no more! It’s a slightly risky strategy as I’m sure I end up forgetting some of the good stuff, but if it was truly good it will come back to me down the line.

Mainly my forthcoming gender transition. And yes, it’s the same thing as six months ago.

What I should be doing with my life that has meaning and beauty. It is exactly the same thing that I was thinking of six months ago however I’m taking the plunge now and taking steps to realise some possibilities… I think about my art a lot and how to put my creative investigativeness to good use… I think about other things too…

Having my house and my partner alone to myself. It’s the same as six months ago. I daydream about all the fun spots we could make love while lounging about all day, nibbling, napping, showering, whatever. We get a day a month off of work together and rarely do we have any romantic adventure, I miss that.

I often think about having a man in my life so I daydream. Too much I think “what did I do wrong?”.
