Why can't I watch all the Phillies games with Direct TVs Baseball plan?

Asked by simone54 (7629points) April 6th, 2008

I live in California and I wanna watch my Phils. We had a free preview of the MLB Extra Innings package and half the game weren’t on there? They also were not nationally broadcasted games. WTF?

Perhaps because it was a free preview it wasn’t the same ad full service. Call DirectTV and ask them.

Not a sports buff, but I know a little about the broadcast/narrowcast industry. MLB may (still) have a deal with cable and satellite companies that allows them to sell games/seasons to various regions/markets of the country, and with that control, they may choose to black out certain areas from seeing certain home games.

Also with thus concept, some other competing product (for example, your local cable provider) may have a contract with MLB to exclusively carry certain teams, and Direct TV may have to defer their right to broadcast to the land line competitor.

As mentioned above, your best bet is to check with Direct TV’s customer service to get an accurate answer.
