Will you make any of your Christmas gifts this season and if so, what?

Asked by marinelife (62485points) November 29th, 2010

Are you planning to make any Christmas gifts?

What are they?

Are they easy, medium or hard to make?

I make cookies and candies to give to close friends each year. It’s easy for me since I love baking.

Those are the only things I’ll be making to give as gifts (though I don’t really consider them to be gifts, just something nice to do).

@Seaofclouds I am thinking of making some shortbread this year.

I used to make all my Christmas gifts, but now I just send money. I still make my own greeting cards.

All of them; that’s been my tradition for a few years now. I might finish that quilt for my sister (that’s hard!). I’ve already made 2 dozen fruitcakes. I’ll probably make some wooden toys for my nephews. Still thinking about most of the others.

Lots of cookies and some pies. I try to make at least one afghan too, but I don’t think I’ll be able to pull that off this year. I make some really pretty soaps, bath salts and bath fizzies as well. Those always go over really well.

I’m pretty broke this year, so I’ll most likely be making a few things for people. Hats, scarves, jewelry… That kind of thing. None of them are hard to make at all, and they always turn out cool. I make cookies and other treats, too, but I don’t really consider those gifts – I just like making them. Same thing with Christmas cards. I already made some awesome ornaments for the tree this year, too. I guess I’m pretty artsy…

I captured some great photos over the Thanksgiving holiday, I will be framing some.

Don’t downplay the cookies & cakes, people! We non-bakers are impressed! And hungry!

I will make a desert basket that has all the ingredients for one of our old family recipes. This year I think it will be for Hungarian Butterhorns with a couple German Wheat beers for the cook!

I’m getting hungry now, especially for shortbread and Hungarian Butterhorns.

A nice touch would be for you all to share the recipe (with the recipients of the gifts and with us here, now).

I usually make most of my presents. Last year, since I was only giving presents to girls (besides my grampa, brother, and dad), I gave all necklaces. This year, I want to do something else, though. I’m not sure what, though.

I have made all my gifts this year, I made hats and scarves (easy) for all my friends and family. My gifts are done, and waiting to be wrapped.

I am impressed with all the gift makers out there. I wish I had time to make gifts. My specialty would be decoupage.

I’m giving out tins of home made cookies this year. I’m super excited. I’ve been baking cookies a lot lately, perfecting my recipes. It’s become a real hobby and passion of mine..so it’s not just regular Christmas cookies to me.

Probably not, this year (lack of time). In the past I have packaged up brown sugar in a small canister and baby oil in a small cruet, and included directions for mixing the two into a great body scrub; painted pictures for my children; monogrammed an apron, etc. I really enjoy doing it, but I just don’t have the time. :(

Edit: The easiest is the body scrub. Inexpensive, too! I just print out the directions on pretty paper, punch a hole in the corner, and tie it to the canister with a bit of raffia. The paintings are the hardest, but I do love to do it.

I make fruitcakes for my friends every year. They ask for them, stop rolling your eyes, people with little packages of nice coffee in the bag. Don’t worry, @Cruiser , you’re not on the list. XP

@JilltheTooth I have to tell you my heart jumped, skipped and stopped for a few when I read your post. XD

YARNLADY's avatar

@JilltheTooth Most people think of those horrible commercially produced fruit cakes rather than the fresh made ones.

crisw's avatar

@YARNLADY

Yep. No candied fruit in mine…dried fruit mostly from our own trees, plenty of nuts, and lots of rum!

JilltheTooth's avatar

Rum, Grand Marnier, organic dried fruitts, organic pecans, hazelnuts and macademias. Damn. Drooling with anticipation.

jca's avatar

I am one of the rare people who likes fruit cake (even the crappy kind). I also like Jamaican black cake, which is like pureed fruit and heavy on the rum, exellent.

I always make all my cards that go with gifts, whether those latter are purchased, made, found or stolen.
I like drawing a lot, and enjoy adding a buncha corny girly coloury strings and crap, people usually like em, and it feels more personal and heartfelt to me.

Don’t get me wrong though, I still fucking hate Christmas lol.

@jca Sounds awesome.
