Do I need to use an SEO or can I do this with some research?

Asked by rbaruch (13points) December 3rd, 2010

I am in the process of working with a company to redo my website. While most of my business is through referrals, I would like to understand why people use an SEO organization and can I actually direct this without paying someone. I own a HR outsource company for small to midsized business in California.

Why don’t you outsource your SEO?

what would be the benefit of this?

You can do it in-house or have another company do it, but it’s important to define and measure the metrics for success. E.g. I want to be on the first page of search terms A, B, C & D within 2 months.

My company (zopim.com) outsourced our SEO to an Indian company. The main reason we chose another company to handle it is because SEO can be a very manpower intensive operation. Once you’ve decided what keywords you want to optimize for, you’d need to start optimizing your website content, the load speed, getting inbound links, among many many things.

Our company’s core expertise is building a great product. While it’s important for us to understand how SEO works, it’s more cost-efficient to let the SEO professionals handle it at a fraction of a cost.
