What is so great about Stony Brook University?
I am thinking of applying and i want to hear why people think its a good school. Mostly, what makes it unique?

My niece is a lit teacher there! (And she’s terrific.)
Nothing. My ex-boyfriend went there and every time I went to visit him I wanted to kill myself.

Well, if cost is a factor than going to a SUNY school is cheaper than a private university. You might look into Binghamton as well.
I know you asked for good things, so this comment might not be what you’re looking for. I apologize. But you’ll want to make sure you know this before you make any decisions: it’s a commuter school. A lot of people go home on the weekends and the campus is absolutely dead. It also wasn’t very academically challenging at all. My sister went there for her freshman year and then transferred to SUNY Geneseo after a year.
Well the only thing I hear that’s great about it is the drinking and partying. Otherwise, I’m with @nikipedia.
In the 60s and 70s it had the reputation of being one of the most progressive and leftwing of the SUNY campuses; I don’t know it that’s still true.
