Installing an old printer on a new computer?

I have a new computer and a very old printer. I searched online for a printer driver so that I could install the printer on the new computer. The only driver that I could find is not compatible with a computer that runs Windows 7. I spoke to tech support and they said that this means that I need to buy a new printer. Is this true? Do you know of any way to get around this issue? Thanks!
