Sorry… Everybody seems to hate Lady Gaga.
I ignored her for a long time, but just recently discovered her music. In the past day or so, I gained a lot of respect for her talent. Her songs are really catchy, her videos are very creative, and she’s a very beautiful woman, regardless of what dubious methods she may use for self-promotion.
Yup, that’s an altered image for sure. You might be able to make your pupils/irises seem larger with contacts, but there’s no way to actually change the shape of your eyes (without surgery or something).
In her video “Bad Romance,” Gaga’s wearing contact lenses designed to enlarge the iris of her eye. The style is catching on with fans. However, these cosmetic lenses have a few drawbacks: they’re illegal in the U.S. and they could cause severe damage to your eyesight. “They’re very popular in Asia for giving people like a doe-eyed look, making the eyes look very large, and it’s because the contact lens part actually extends beyond the iris or the colored part of the eye and in doing so makes the eye look a little bit larger. Purely cosmetic.” Dr. Jennifer Ashton shared the details.
Ashton explained these types of contact lenses are over-the-counter and are not prescribed or regulated by an eye care professional.
Ashton said infections are common.
“In some cases, rarely (infections can) can even lead to blindness,” Ashton said. “Absent those things, corneal ulcers, scratches or abrasions in the corner of the eye, impairing vision either from the tears or from infection, and depriving the eye of oxygen all can set up the risk of infection and in rare cases, blindness.”
She added, “You do not want to mess with this. And we’ve seen colored contact lenses become popular years and years ago go. This is kind of the newest version of that trend. Purely cosmetic when you’re talking about contact lenses. You have to remember they were initially designed to treat vision problems—not to make you look better.”
Ulzzang, or “best face,” is a Korean subculture in which girls alter their looks digitally, with a shitload of makeup and by any other means available to them, to get that perfect anime look. In other words, a ulzzang girl is going to have behemoth, circular eyes, a teeny little nose and mouth, flawless, pale skin and an itty-bitty body dressed up in perfectly coordinated outfits.
So here’s how ulzzang eyes work: First, you slab a shitload of makeup all over your face. Then, you jam some contacts designed to make your irises look huge into your eyes. Never mind that the lenses will prevent oxygen from getting to your eyes, which will lead to frequent infections and, in a worst-case scenario, will actually poke a hole in your cornea and you’ll literally go blind—those big eyes of yours aren’t freakish at all!
Once your sight is in danger, it’s on to the eyelid glue, which is kind of a putty that you use to get rid of that pesky Asian “monolid.” Here’s an actual quote from a tutorial on applying the stuff:
“Apply eyelid glue or tape to the eyes and using the pusher stick, poke into the lid what shape you want until you get a crease.”
So, just to be clear, “pusher sticks” are a real thing, and what the sticks are pushing is the eye zone. And the people who are pushing their eyes with sticks are doing so because they want to look more like cartoon characters and less like human beings.

Her music is definitely not what I usually listen to, but I like her too. She’s got pipes – there’s no denying that – and I really like her “fuck you” attitude.

I think @simone is upset because I mentioned in my answer that I’m only sexually attracted to females and wouldn’t desire her sexually if she was TG, even though I have absolutely nothing against TG or intersex people.

I liked Bad Romance and even Poker Face when they came out – to get closer to my kids – she’s the madonna of this generation – but then I saw her perform Poker Face on the piano. Now that was great.
