Looking for free but good iPhone apps.

I don’t have a proper hobby. I like to do crosswords, read and play board games, but I do not make anything or do anything crafty.

absalom's avatar

It used to be competitive gaming. Now it’s ‘serious’ reading and writing. But that stuff will eventually be a profession and not a hobby, and I’ll have to find something else.

I knitt, read for entertainment and also I learn some new words at the same time, I write in my diary…this year I blogged but this upcoming year I am going to buy myself a BIG diary because I will try and write in it at least three times a week.
I also watch a lot of TV, use the computer almost everyday….
And when I go back home I will be playing soccer

I’m serious about all of my hobbies, but especially shooting/gun collecting, photography, miniature modeling, book collecting, antique militaria collecting, poetry, and fiction writing.

I can’t believe I just GA’d @seazen‘s answer. What can I say, it made me smile.

I have had several hobbies over the years including yoga, martial arts, needlework, knitting, crochet, quilting, tole painting (raise your hand if you remember the tole painting craze of the early 90’s), I could go on and on. No I don’t really have a hobby, I read and play on Fluther, but those boys and school leave me with very little free time.

Cruiser's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille I hope you have been a good girl this year and Santa brings you lots of those golf lessons you so desperately need, then I will feel better about giving you 50 strokes for 9 holes and I will still KYA!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Cruiser I don’t need no stinking lessons.I would annihilate you.I am positive of that!

Cruiser's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille Don’t pass on those lessons….I have seen your golf swing before! ;))

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Cruiser -I’ll teach you a lesson! XD

Cruiser's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille Promises….promises! ;)

noodle_poodle's avatar

I paint and go out for walks…tho I often laugh whilst doing so, so I am not sure if it could be considered serious.

This is funny.

People collect all kinds of weird stuff, but have you seen anyone collect used condoms?

This man in Singapore has some unique taste. He collects hundreds of the used rubbers and piles them up on his bathroom window.

Neighbors have been complaining about his gross act for a while. Some of the condoms are rotting from the sun, and when it rains, the water washes the condoms causing them to drip on the neighbor’s windows.

Nobody knows why he has this odd collection. Maybe he’s thinking about recycling them someday?

seazen's avatar

@SuperMouse What can I say: it’s a hobby.

Seaofclouds's avatar

Reading, playing video games, and spending time here are my top 3 hobbies right now.

Trillian's avatar

Yes. Everyone does. Mine is collecting lintballs.

lilalila's avatar

I collect dice. :] I have a bag of them about the size of my head right now and I’m moving on to a second.

BoBo1946's avatar

@lilalila that is unique!

Jeremycw1's avatar

I can’t really pick one single hobby… I like playing guitar, restoring classic cars, photography, producing snowboarding movies, there’s just too much fun stuff to do and not enough time :/

Lightlyseared's avatar

Also I suppose I should mention that I have every major games console and computer from that the last 30 years set up and functioning in the same room and a ridiculuous number of games.

I play dress up in/make Star Wars costumes.

Pencil-and-paper RPGs
Cars
Computers
pR0n (my wife works retail, so our differing hours deprive me of fully appreciating the female body)
Console gaming (single-player; no MMO for me, thank you!)
R/C cars and ‘copters
Tabletop strategy gaming
Cat ownership
Arguing with strangers on the ‘net

I have quite a few hobbies, and most involve either strong math skills, rules lawyering, or technology in various forms. Even pR0n requires strong computer skills on the 21st-century! And with the new rules in Classic BattleTech changing the interaction between a Targeting Computer and the Medium Pulse Laser, a certain degree of mental agility is involved as well.

Yes, I am a nerd, but not a typical one.

@lilalila I need a set of hematite dice in all shapes, but I need extra 6-siders since GURPS takes 3d6 for most things (basically everything except damage rolls) and Shadowrun require more d6 than you can shake a stick at. Any recommendations? Most SR players have a Crown Royal bag full of d6.
BTW, do you have the “golf ball”, a.k.a. the 100-sider by Gamescience? I have white one with blue numbering.

@BoBo1946 I take it that you are not a tabletop gamer.

collecting and shooting old military rifles. I.D.P.A. matches. I have a Sigma with a GOOD trigger, not as it comes from Smith & Wesson. Building plastic armor kits putting in the extra detail parts like photo-etch metal and other found objects. I suppose these things revolve around history I find interesting.

lilalila's avatar

@jerv ; I haven’t started collecting precious stone dice yet, but they are definitely next. And so is the golf ball. I have dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20 sides in maaaany colors. I normally buy them by the set or as singles in store or receive them as gifts; no online purchases. At one point I had a d20 necklace, but I lost it somewhere. I used to do pencil and paper RPGs myself (Exalted, D&D, World of Darkness, and Star Wars) which got me started, but I only play with a select group of people and I rarely have time nowadays. So basically, all I do is keep on acquiring dice with no real purpose.

It’s weird. I’m not really what you might call an expert on dice or a connoisseur or anything. I just see them, and I have to buy them. I’ve been eying a set of bloodstone d10s, but that’s pretty much the only set I have premeditated, so I can’t really help you on recommendations or anything. Here is my collection so far (minus a set of 36 clear d6’s with white numbers, which is in the other bag):

jerv's avatar

@lilalila Ah. Try here to see if anything catches your fancy. I haven’t found quite what I am looking for, but that is because they generally only sell teh stone ones in complete sets. They do have teh Pound of dice though.

lilalila's avatar

@jerv ; That site wants all of my money. It wants all of my money right now.

BoBo1946's avatar

@jerv no, just go about once a year and play slots. More than that is risky business. Also, play a little Blackjack.

jerv's avatar

@BoBo1946 Different type of gaming. It annoys me when I go into some book stores and head to the gaming section expecting Shadowrun and GURPS and finding Blackjack and Poker instead :P
