IN general there quotes are at the low end of the value for the wholesale for your vehicle. So if you are ok with that they yes you would get a fair price.

My car has 263,000 interstate miles on it. went to Carmax just to look around, saw one vehicle i liked. salesman ran contract proposal on my vehicle and their vehicle to sell. i was shocked to learn that Carmax would only give me $200 for my car. i realize my car has this many miles on it, but i have had my vehicle, since day one. everything works perfectly on it. as i was reading Carmax’s proposal, i laughed out loud when i read the trade-in allowance of $200. “you have got to be kidding me. my car is worth at least $2,000 dollars, not $200. i guess the salesman thought i came in on a load of pumkins. wife and i stood up and left.

Carmax has some really nice automobiles for sale. their selling tactics are in question.

No they won’t give you a fair price at all.

Also, despite their claims, a lot of their cars have been severely damaged in the past and are unsafe. We bought a car from them, only to have things start falling apart on it not too long after we bought it. We had paid for an extended warranty, but they refused to fix it. We later found out that it had been a damaged rental car.

They were so rude to us and refused to honor the warranty that we eventually walked in, threw the keys at them and told them, “You can have this piece of shit back”.

I got my first car from there. It turns out it had been in a significant accident which was never disclosed. It ended up having problems and I had to get a new car. In my mind, Carmax is kind of sketchy, but a different kind of sketchy than “Earl and Ray’s Used Auto Lot.”
