Does anyone else like to put there fingers between each of their toes?

It feels sooo good after a long day of work? Am I the only one?

I dont’ do that, but getting your feet massaged is wonderful.

I don’t but when Im sitting on the couch I always curl my toes under and put the weight on them. I didn’t even realize I do it until an ex pointed it out.

You just stick your fingers between your toes and leave them there? I can’t say I do that but I’m a little curious to the process and what exactly your talking about. I pop my toes the way peedub described. That feels really good.

I put a finger between each space between each toe. I push them in there as deep as possible.

@peedub: I do the exact same thing! And, everyone in my family does it… my dad, and my grandmother. Perhaps…genetic?

Haha, wow, I do this. I’ll either do one space at a time with each finger per space, or all my fingers between each toe at once. I never thought it was weird tho, I have much weirder stuff I do, hah

There are pressure points between your toes, and between your fingers as well. Massaging them affects various nerves, and which nerves are affected is not always obvious. There is a whole art related to this, called acupressure. And – yeah, it does feel good.

Very good for stretching foot muscles. You can actually buy a device that fits in between your toes and allows you to slowly stretch your feet open over time. It feels weird a first, then great.

A more advanced, self-contained version: weave your toes in between each other!

Yup i love sticking my fingers between my toes. Couldn’t tell you why it just feels… good?

@nicholasbeem I am going to e-mail that link to my boss. He is a podiatrist. I’m out of work now on disability, but I’ll let you know what he says about it when I hear back from him. I think he might want to try them on a few of our patients. Thanks for posting that.

I got an answer back from my boss. Here is what he has to say about the Yoga Toes in the link above.

As for the ‘Toe Stretchers’...the ‘after’ pic is bogus. I’m not sure what or who they’re for, but I wouldn’t waste 33 cents on them.

He is a board certified podiatrist and podiatric surgeon.

@scamp is this to say that all toe stretching devices are bunk and i should just use my fingers or are there anything else? Because really i think stretching out my toes with my fingers feels amazing. It hurts at first but after a bit its so relaxing.

I sent him the link that nicholasbeem posted above. His comment was on that particular device. To do it yourself with your fingers isn’t harmful. But it may not be much of a benefit either. As far as devices go, it depends on the reason why you need them. For instance if you have a condition called morton’s neuroma, stretching the toes may help relieve the pain temporarily, but not cure the condition itself.

Not to get competitive here, but a yoga teacher of ~30 years recommended them to me, and she’s seen a lot of change on her own feet. She whole job is paying attention to the body and how it works, so her testimony has weight.

Years of wearing tight shoes can cause foot muscles to get tight and short, and the foot changes shape and distorts, which can lead to bunions and other painful conditions. That is to say, the problems don’t just appear out of nowhere. Foot usage/restriction creates them. I wonder how your boss determined the photos are bogus – perhaps he dismisses the idea that you could resolve a foot problem without surgery?

@nicholasbeem I agree that her testimony would have weight because she has actually used this product and can talk about the result. I will tell him that it has been tried with good results. He would agree with you about the damage wearing ill fitting shoes can do. He is constantly chiding people about that. I think he may have meant the after pics are bogus, as a lot of advertising is known to falsify results.

There are some conditions, such as bunions that will ultimately require surgery as the only means of relief, but he doesn’t dismiss non-surgical treatment beforehand. Stretching exercises are good for preventing a lot of foot problems, but in some cases, as in bunion, there is little it can do to relieve the condition once present. In extreme cases of bunion the only relief is surgery to shave down the bony perturbances. Early on, changing the position of the toe can help relieve some of the pressure tho. So in this instance both your Yoga instructor and my boss are both right.

I’m glad you brought this up. I’m going to ask my boss to take another look at this product. We have an elderly patient whose second toe crosses over her third, and I think if she is able to wear this, it would do her some good. As it is now, she has to either wear sandals, or cut the toe box out of her shoes to fit in them. I hope he will suggest this to her. I was surprised at his initial reaction myself, because he is usually more willing to try new things. Thanks so much for your input!
