What makeup should I use?

Asked by ivysaurgoesrawr (106points) December 30th, 2010

I am extremely pale with a lot of freckles and redness in my face. I want to start a new makeup routine and I’m looking for new, good makeup. I don’t know what I should get: primer, concealer, foundation, bronzer, powder, there’s so much! Or what brands are good, etc. I know I’d prefer a mineral makeup, something natural. If you could give me examples of good products that would be great. Oh, and links to natural looking makeup routine tutorials would be very helpful. :) Thank you!

The best way in simply to go get a makeover done – they can see your face and judge if you need moisture, oil combatants, just a light layer or something more, etc. Tell them you’re looking for an everyday look that you can keep for awhile (so nothing too faddish). Since you want minerals, I’d go to a BareMinerals counter – I know they have them at Ulta. They’ll show you how to apply everything.

Once you figure out what kind of shades you need for your face, I highly suggest this makeup. My sister is vegan and needed to find makeup that didn’t have animals in it, and that also wasn’t tested on animals. When she ordered samples (to determine what shade she needed to order) she made me try some of them. I fell COMPLETELY in love with her stuff. It’s not expensive, it’s all natural, and because they don’t use or test on animals, I got some, too. I have never found better makeup for my skin.

Her eyeshadow is also wonderful, because the colors work great. You don’t have to use a lot of anything to get the effect you want. I really, really recommend browsing through her site. I will never use any other kind of makeup now, unless she stops producing hers.

Well I’m pale too and I use max factor miracle touch and I love it, it’s like an expensive foundation but it’s not dear. Also, you can get a ‘colour corrective’ green foundation that cancels out the red but I’m not sure how well it works.

@lemming The site I mentioned has blue powder to cancel out the red, and it works really well. So, to the OP, that would probably work for you.

The only foundation that’s pale enough for me is Merle Norman’s Pure Ivory shade, but it’s definitely not minerals or super natural.

Well there you go, red sorted.
