What does a bulging forehead mean?

Asked by gamefu91 (591points) January 2nd, 2011

I have hard bulges on my forehead like this girl
http://dcairns.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/vlcsnap-11122.png
This girl has only one bulge on her right side, but I have it on both sides. And they are not clots or skin lumps,it is hard like bone. And I don’t feel any problems like headaches, nausea etc.
Does it mean anything? Or are they just bulges?
Can these be related to weak/good memory or high/low intelligence?
Does any of you or anyone you has this kind of bulges?

I have one, too. A small one in the center of my forehead. I was told that it is just how the bone forms when you’re an infant as your skull is developing. Could be that you bumped your head and the bone thickened, but I’m fairly sure it doesn’t mean anything or cause any ill effects later in life.

@TheOnlyNeffie I cannot bump both sides of my forehead for symmetry lol ;p
These bulges came to my notice just 4–5 months back,I am 19.

I wonder if they could be vestigial horns?

It could have been from a condition where one or more of your cranial sutures closed early. If that is the case it will not cause you any problems.

There are some disease conditions that can cause this, but if you are not having symptoms and have always been this way, you are probably fine. To be sure, you could see a neurologist.

Doctor who? Damnit, now I need to watch an episode. Why is he even on this question?

Although it could make sense. He wanders onto a planet where all the children have these lumps on their heads, and nobody misbehaves. Meh, maybe you are turning into hell-boy, idk.

I agree with @marinelife, see someone, but not that dr webmd or whatever he is.

If these just recently appeared, I would definitely get a doctor to take a look and tell you if it is anything to worry about. Best of luck with it. You don’t want something like this happening to you!

You definitely want to see a physician if this is a recent development.

@augustlan there is a passage in a Led Zeppelin song: “the soul of a woman was created below” :)
