What was a "fear" you recently conquered or are maybe planning to?

Asked by ucme (50047points) January 4th, 2011

Yeah, a fear or an anxiety you have which has recently been addressed or one which you intend facing head on in the near future. Maybe something you would consider a personal triumph. Perhaps a phobia or just something that you feel it’s about time was put behind you. I have to say for me it’s flying. An irrational, completely impractical fear that’s gone unchecked for far too long.

Up until about a year ago I had a totally irrational and inexplicable fear of New York City. (I spent a lot of time in the city when I was younger, I don’t know where the fear came from.) A few friends were very patient with me, taking me in and leading me around, now I love it, can find my way around just fine, take public transportation, and all that. Quite a good thing as there is so much cool stuff to do there!

Just like all other answers for me right now… quitting smoking. Ohmydeargodinheaven. I’ve been afraid to quit for so long because I knew it would be difficult, but holyfreakingshitbatmaniwanttodie. Currently alternating between crying and tourette’s.

Currently I’m working on just leaving my house, I’m taking baby steps and it’s REALLY hard but I’m at least trying. Everyday I walk out the door I consider it a huge triumph for me!

I actually went into water without being frightened but I still can’t swim
@JustJessica Well done you… one step at a time :)))

@partyparty Thank you very much. Congrats on your baby steps also!!! You should take a swimming class, once you conquer any fear I know it feels so liberating!

Well, I’d really like the opportunity to conquer my fear of being obscenely wealthy… ;)

I’d love to conquer my fear of bugs, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

@WillWorkForChocolate You made me chuckle! I’m quitting, too, but I’m using Champix (Chantix in US) so I don’t have Tourette’s. I quit once for 9 years- the freedom was so wonderful- we’ll get there.

@faye Does Chantix really work?

I am pretty fearless, no phobias or anything that interferes with my life functioning, but, I do fear the stomach flu! lol

I am hoping that tonights megamillions lotto draw will help me overcome my fear of what I would do with 330 million dollars. haha

Oh..I AM afraid to drive in huge cities I don’t know my way around like L.A. and San Francisco.

I CAN do it, but I hate to. ;-)

I’ve been working on trying to ignore my OCD about things always being in order. I recently left the foot stool in the kitchen turned off kilter, instead of lining it up with the cabinets. I have mostly stopped re-hanging the towel in the bathrooms so that they are folded with edges even and corners matched up.

It still bothers me to see things crooked, but I am trying to learn to live without doing something about it.
