I'm trying to find more exposure for my friend's music. What works best?

Asked by gottamakeart (1323points) January 5th, 2011

I have a musician friend who is Independant right now, but hoping to go mainstream. His name is Alo Moniz and his band is called “Alo and the Narcissist” he already has an album on Itunes. He has FaceBook, Twitter, MySpace, a YouTube channel, and even a band website. He isn’t signed to a label yet- and I’d like to see him at least get some radio play. What makes a new artist “stand-out” for you? For the musically curious, here’s the link to the band’s website:

Have you checked out www.sellaband.com? It’s a good way to get fans to be a marketing machine, potentially.

Is he playing gigs, private parties, events, clubs, etc.?

One great way to get exposure is to volunteer at charity events.

A friend if mine has a band and they play free events and hand out flyers for private parties etc.

Youtube, Myspace, Facebook… Really any social networking site will help you get the word out. Keep promoting online and you will get listeners from all over. Hey, its how Justin Bieber became famous. Hate to use that example though, but it worked for him. Y’know?

A lot of radio stations in my area have specific times that they play local music. “Local at 11” for example. Or one of them plays one local song every hour. You could contact local radio stations to see if they do anything like this.

I don’t have an answer for you, but I would like to say that I’m jealous of your friend. If only I had friends as supportive as you, maybe I’d be touring the country with a band.

I’m gonna go cry now.

yep…find stations that play local. National airplay costs big bucks. Free is good.

benefits are good.

how about offering to do high school dances, getting local ‘trendy’ clothes shops to play his album as background music? Good Luck :)
