What food do love the taste of, but you do not eat it because it is so bad for you?

Asked by josie (30934points) January 6th, 2011

For example, the Big Mac, or pepperoni pizza. I love those things, but I just can’t bring myself to eat them.

Oh, there is nothing I won’t let myself eat as a treat sometimes! Life is too short!

Cabbage is bad for my thyroid!

Whole (homogenized) milk. I love the taste of whole milk, so rich and creamy, but I have to avoid it because I break out with terrible acne cysts when I drink it. In addition, I am lactose intolerant, so drinking it does a number on my stomach. :(

Oddly enough, I used to drink whole milk by the glasses when I was a kid, and it never really bothered me, but as I grew into an adult, I became less tolerant. I now drink a brand of milk for lactose intolerant individuals, and it’s skim milk too, so the fat content doesn’t cause me to break out or raise my cholesterol level.

I don’t eat anything with trans fat, which has stopped me from eating all sorts of things I love. Banishing Pop-Tarts made me the saddest, though. I also haven’t eaten at a McDonald’s in at least 15 years.

I used to buy these oversized cinnamon rolls once in a while at the grocery store. To say they were damn delicious, would be an understatement. I think I moaned once while eating one. This was before the trans fats were required to be printed on the label. After discovering that they had more than 15 grams of trans fat. I had to say goodbye – without so much as a goodbye bite.

I’ve been backing off eating bacon and eggs. I’d rather keep myself in shape. ;-)

Doughnuts. I love the way they taste, but the thought of how horrible they really pretty much prevents me from eating them. Can’t remember the last time I had one…

Chocolate ice cream, chocolate mousse cake, sausage, and cheese fries.
I love pizza (green peppers, onions, and black olives) and I eat that about once every two months.

If I’m even slightly sick, I cannot eat sweets, or milk products. I drown in mucus.

I drink sodas every morning, even though it burns my throat and puts me in a bad mood for Spanish II.

Hot chips/fries with chicken salt… Although if someone else buys them and offers me a couple I won’t refuse. My brain has this terrible thing where free stuff is more important than my health.

If you learn moderation, there’s nothing you can’t have from time to time. And, yes, my doctor looked at my last cholesterol test and said “how the hell do you do it”. :)

There are foods I avoid for health reasons, but I do not completely avoid them, just eat them on rare occasion. Whole eggs is the most obvious one, because I eat eggs quite often, but it is only egg whites 98% of the time. I also love pasta with meat sauce and mozerella melted on top, and I leave off the mozerella most of the time, and even leave off the meat and just use mushrooms half the time when I crave it. Sucks.

Haagen Dazs Belgian Chocolate Chocolate (yes, there are two chocolates in there). Not compatible with my diet.

Various types of fast food (Burger King, Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr., Jack in the Box, Wendy’s, etc.). After contracting diabetes in 2006, it totally killed the possibilities of eating LOTS of food I used to love the taste of.

Sauerkraut. Not generally thought of as a bad food, but there’s something in it I’m allergic to, and I react if I have more than just a little of it – say, the amount you’d put on a Reuben sandwich. I would eat a whole jar of it at a time if I could.

Nachos, those kind with the bright orange cheese and sliced jalapenos that you get at the fair or the ballpark. My friend always teases me when we do go to the fair. She knows I want them, but I don’t get them.

@IchtheosaurusRex This same friend who teases me about the nachos is also allergic to sauerkraut even though she craves it.

I eat everything in moderation. You should not deny yourself the finer things in life just because someone says it’s bad for you. If you do that then you will not enjoy anything.

Kardamom's avatar

@Mikewlf337 I think you are probably right, but in my case I don’t think my pick qualifies as one of the “finer things in life” ha ha ha. But I still love it.

Burger King oreo milkshake with whipped cream!

etignotasanimum's avatar

Any sort of fast food. I used to love McDonald’s and Burger King, but then went for years without eating from those establishments. Now when I’m crunched for time and go out to eat, the food literally makes me sick to my stomach, what with all the grease and other stuff in it. I guess that this is kind of good though, because it makes me want to eat the food less often, and eat healthy-ish food instead.

Ice cream.

Bennigan’s Monte Cristo…deep fat fried grease dripping goodness…but ooohhh sooooo terrible for a person…I still allow myself one once a year on my birthday, it probably shortens the number of birthdays I have…but! I figure I’m pretty good the rest of the year to make up for it.

I’ve just returned from eating at one of the restaurants that I try to go to only once or twice a year. This time I got a fried chicken sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato, honey mustard, and a side of waffle fries. I refrained from getting the peanut butter pie.

I regret nothing!
With the possible exception of not getting the pie.

@SavoirFaire you just reminded me of another thing: curly fries and a mocha shake from Arby’s. So good, but yet so bad.
