Any good online games?

Asked by ezamine (127points) January 7th, 2011

I have been looking for a good online game that you DON’T have to pay monthly fees for and WON’T give you a virus. Any suggestions?
I’ve already tried gpotato

If you’re interested in role-playing games, you could try Guild Wars or Dungeons & Dragons Online. They’re both free to play, though I’m pretty sure that with Guild Wars you still have to buy the initial game. I’ve tried both and they were okay, but I play World of Warcraft and they just couldn’t compare.

There’s another one called Runes of Magic which I haven’t tried, but I know people who have. Again, it’s no WoW, but you might want to give it a shot.

I would say secondlife, but it’s not exactly user friendly, but there are tons of walkthroughs and how-to videos on it. see what you can do. I love games like this myself….. and I know of almost every one! Why don’t you tell us your age and we can help you further?

Thanks, I’ll try all four.
I’m fourteen, as I said I’ve played the gpotato games, If either of you know them, do you know a game like Rappelz?

try runescape or fiesta. I’m assuming you like those battle/social incorporated games?

I haven’t played Rappelz, but from what I read about it, it seems to be a pretty generic RPG. Any of the ones that I’ve played might interest you.

lov3Drnk, played those. but yes.
Seelix, I’m trying Guild Wars right now

Puzzle Pirates. It’s a cross between a puzzle site and a pirate-themed MMORPG. The results of player actions depend on how well they do various “Tetris”-type puzzles, instead of depending on the outcome of some sort of probability generator. For example, there are puzzles that abstractly represent swordfighting, sailing, navigation, gunnery, crafts, etc. This is much more fun than the “grind” that other MMORPGs make players do to advance. If you don’t like MMORPGs, you can just play the puzzles and card games (including poker). There is also a player-run economy if you like playing a merchant.

If you have a good enough PC and don’t mind paying a bit, (or if you’re into first person shooters in general), Team Fortress 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 are two of my favorite games. Ever.

ezamine's avatar

As long as it’s not a monthly pay and is under $30 I’ll try it.

@ezamine Both of those are 20$, and I really like both.

If I were you I’d start with Team Fortress 2, though. It’s got a great community, even if you’ve never played you should be able to jump right in and be successful. Also, your computer should be able to run it, it’s a few years old.

I just got into League Of Legends it’s free and kinda cool. Also here’s an article with a list of FREE online games (http://web.appstorm.net/roundups/games/the-10-best-free-online-adventure-games/). There’s also Allods which is a Free MMO similar to WoW and Guild Wars. Steam has some cool games for free like Alien Swarm and Track Mania. Also check Joystiq.com and IGN do a search for free online games. There’s tons of stuff out there that’s great, virus free… and parent friendly in case your folks are strict along those lines. Also search our twitter database on Torching Igloos for tons more.

Check out Pogo.com. You can play a variety of board games (monopoly, scrabble, etc.), card games (poker, etc.), and other games.

Yea, I play World of Warcraft, most can’t compare, but as @lov3xDrnk suggested, I’d go with Runescape. It’s an in-browser game that’s free to play, with a $5 subscription if you wanna take the next step. It’s what I played before WoW, and I won’t lie, it was TONS of fun.

weeveeship, I go on Pogo atleast once a week. Yes, it is a good gaming site.
