How can I password protect an existing hard drive partition?

I have severaal partitions on my ecternal hard drives backing up files. How can I password protect them, without creating a new partition?

Truecrypt does this, and it’s free/open source. http://www.truecrypt.org/

Second vote for Truecrypt.

I had tried truecrypt, but it only password protects a new partition. I have several partitions, the smallest being 100 gigs of data. I can’t copy those over and make a new one.
