Does anyone know what skin infection this is?

Asked by chk8n (106points) January 16th, 2011

The first time, it was just a bump- no heads- I thought it was just a pimple or a zit. As day goes on, it turned into bleeding and yellow pus would come out of it. The next morning, I would see a dramatic change from the red bump into a crater-like bump (in the middle somewhat red and yellow mix- brownish) and just created a huge hardened yellow pus. That morning I was determined to cleaned up the hardened yellow pus and every single time it bleeds, I can feel that it’s watery. This infection is hurting every single time I try talking, or moving my lips.

First time: itchy and gradually turn to painful blisters feeling.

Medications I’ve used so far: Triple antibiotic, cortizone, neosprin.
Days so far: 3–4 days now

I do NOT smoke, or do drugs (if that’s related)
I have a mild cold/cough

Thank you so much for those who’ve helped. I was searching online and I could only get so many inputs- but if you guys can see the image, maybe it’ll be more clearer? Thank you for helping!

Without tests you won’t know what to treat the infection with. Some infections can actually spread if treated with the wrong antibiotic.

Go to the doctor. If left untreated it could kill you.

This is right above your mouth?
Stop picking, squeezing and touching it. Leave it alone, and see a doctor as soon as possible.

If anyone could help, do you guys know what is it called? I went to my doctor and he doesnt know what it is besides telling me it’s skin infections. Unfortunately, without me knowing what it is exactly- it’s hard to treat. I’m so confused.

What did the doctor say to treat it with?

chk8n's avatar

antibiotic ointment (preferred) or cream. I have done that but the pus is still coming out- it doesn’t seem like its healing because it’s still hurting.

Give his/her office a call and see if you can discuss it will the doctor over the phone. Maybe you need an oral antibiotic or something stronger.

Your description(and photo) sounds like it could be fever blister/cold sore(same thing). Antibiotics won’t do a thing if that’s what it is. Abreva is OTC ointment for that; I’d check w/the doc first, though.

Looks like a cold sore to me, but, of course, the doctor saw it. Did the doctor swab it? I think you’re trying to rush the healing process. It will take a couple of days. I’m going to say you should try my ever loved tea tree oil. It works on viruses and bacteria.

Are you sure it is actually pus?

Healing wounds often secrete serum, a yellowish, golden, clearish liquid and that is not pus.

Yes, I’d say it is a cold sore/fever blister. STOP touching it and squeezing it!

A wound cannot heal if constantly disturbed. Hello!

The bacteria from your fingers can cause an infection. I’d say wash it with an antibacterial soap, apply the medication and do NOT touch it for a few days.

If this doesn’t help get back to your doc.

It could be a staph infection..yeah, revise my words to say see your doc again asap.

Looks very much like a cold sore to me.. You can buy creams over the counter to clear them up….. I use Zovirax Cold Sore Cream – 2g Tube. If you can get this stuff use it, it’s very affective. :-/
