What does it take to get banned? Have I ever gotten close?

Asked by josie (30934points) January 19th, 2011

It has become clear to me that a jelly that I was familiar with is gone. I hear he has been “banned”.
Does that mean “gone forever”?
Is there redemption?
What does one have to do to be banned?
Have I ever come close?

Oh ho! A jelly you were familiar with was banned? You may be guilty by association. Hmm. Very interesting.

:-)~

If you had come close, you would have received multiple warnings – it’s not a decision entered into lightly or precipitously. (Although blatant spamming and hate speech will result in insta-ban.)

In most cases, users are given a suspension, after which they are welcome to return if they would like to, as long as they abide by the rules. It’s kind of a cool down/ reassessment period, and gives them a chance to decide if this is the right community for them.

Nope, you haven’t come close. For long-term members, we always give at least one warning, and then we favor suspension (for two weeks) over banning. That suspension can turn into a ban, if the member tries to circumvent the suspension, or behaves terribly in response to it.

Aw, who’s gone now?

~If you want I will ban you so you can feel like a rebel. But I require payment in chocolate. Enough to silence all the mods please.

Please note that this offer is only valid on self-banning. Banning of another member requires a minimum cash payment of $30k in unmarked bills and the deed to a retreat compound for mod staff to relocate near a tropical resort.

IMPORTANT Chocolate payment does not include start of rumors of “humorless volunteers ban free-spirit-fun-loving rebel” which requires the chocolate to be Godiva and an additional gift of a case of quality wine for the mod lunchroom. (User @breedmitch can suggest which wine will get you the most glorifying rumors)

@Dog I want to hear some more. That sounds like fun.

@Dog So if I ban you will you pay me in chocolate? Because I so want in on this deal! ;-)

@wundayatta I am able to ban myself… and have done so. Thus why should I give you all my chocolate? However I am very willing to share with you. :)
(I got a small box of Godiva for Christmas- do you prefer white, dark or milk chocolate?)

wundayatta's avatar

It all depends on how good it is. I usually like to try a little of each. But mostly I just wanted someone to give me chocolates, since my wife does not give me them on the theory, she says, that I don’t need them, if you know what I mean.

Everyone needs chocolate sometimes…

Dog passes chocolates out to @wundayatta & @wilma

Chocolates are meant to be shared. Despite the possible well-intentions of loved ones methinks.

Valentine’s day arrives sooneth. Methinks it be time to investigate the options, this year. They all look so good, and they all are so damn expensive!

I think I have a discount card for Godiva. If I find it I will gladly send it your way ;) (totally serious!)

I love how a Q about banning becomes about chocolate. I want some, too, please!

Oh, JP is that you again? I hope your room is nice.

@JilltheTooth It has been said that a person could go stark raving mad trying to identify trolls or disgruntled users…
Passes @JilltheTooth some chocolate.

Splains the similarities between us, eh BB?
Loving the chocolate!

Dog's avatar

He he he… Yup!

@wundayatta

Hey Wun! I do have a $10 gift card for Godiva. If you want it pm me an address (like work or a friends) so those who do not share their chocolates do not think it is for them. :)

@syz What constitutes hate speech?

augustlan's avatar

@papayalily Certain words/phrases would result in an instant ban… things like the “N” word, or “All homosexuals should be killed”. We don’t put up with that kind of thing.
