Can I use IPS/UPS/RTLS to make a cheap mocap system?

Asked by windex (2932points) January 23rd, 2011

So far, the all the solutions I’ve looked at for mocap (motion capture) cost thousands of dollars.

Is it possible to set transmitter sensors to act as an Indoor positioning systems or use ultrasonic sensors.

I wish I had time and resources to make it happen but I have pretty much failed at life so far and have neither.

Wouldn’t this solution be a much better one, instead of having dozens of cameras setup in a warehouse to track pingpong balls on a suit? There has to be a better solution using something else, even RFID chips or Something!

I’m a starving artist who dropped out of college, so I am really dumb. There has to be someone who has thought about this and has done it.

All I care about at this point is the .bvh

Thanks for your time.

There are many many ways to do mocap.

Consider using the 3d camera in the Kinect if you only need a single vantage point (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QrnwoO1-8A ) or one or two of them if you need more than one point.
