Where can I find the best car rental deal in Tampa, Florida?

Asked by beloved1 (2points) January 26th, 2011

I’m traveling to Florida in mid March and need to rent a car. Where can I find the best deal? My husband and I are going on a road trip for 4–5 days.

I’ve had good luck with expedia.com, by watching for specials. Try to reserve a car early. Mid March is Spring Break, and probably the worst time to travel to Florida because of that.

The “best deal” comes in by knowing that you should not buy the car insurance and all the extras; your regular car insurance should cover you while traveling. The pressure to upsell services and car size is ridiculous.

Credit cards also usually give you rental car insurance protection; check with your own. It is usually cheaper to rent from an agency off-site rather than direct from the airport. We usually rent from Alamo right at the airport in Tampa, but did find a Budget place off-site that was cheaper. (I beleive it was on Westover Road.) We had to take ao $10 cab ride to the location.

Check Orbitz, Expedia and Yahoo Travel. Also AAA if you are a member.

Go direct to the rental company sites, sometimes they have special deals going on.

You can get discounts from more than just AAA… there are hundreds of membership programs and professional organizations that offer discount codes to members. You can find a list of over 350 codes for 8 companies at http://www.best-car-rental-tips.com/discount-codes.html
