Do you know of any really great international flight deals, beyond what googling "cheap flights" discovers?

Asked by the_sherpa (108points) January 28th, 2011

Because of the completely crazy deportation of my partner from the US to Aus, I’m flying from California to Australia next month to visit, and am trying to do this as cost effectively as I can. I’ve used all the usual sites (Kayak, CheapOAir, Orbitz, etc) and am wondering if YOU know about some awesome website or special thing!

travelzoo.com has lots of great deals.

You might to better to find the cheap airfare first, then time the visit accordingly. I think bing.com used to have some sort of app where you can put in where you want to go, and it tells you when and what day of the week is the cheapest fare.

Try Ryan Air their flights are really cheap

Alas, we don’t have RyanAir in the US. That will be a beautiful day.

Ick.. No.. don’t bother with RyanAir. They are AWFUL!! Seriously. They want to charge people for using their toilets and they have started to ‘fine’ people for not printing out their own bording pass.

A good site I use is www.restplass.no but… um…. it’s Norwegian.

Basically, what you are doing when you use these sites is getting access to the airlines ‘cheap seats’ and the best way to do this is book as early as you can. I think Orbitz has access to the biggest database of seats available, so you are probably seeing everything there is to see.

Last time I crossed the Pacific to New Zealand, I think Delta and Continental were the cheapest.

You could get on a 6am UA Flight but it goes to Denver first… how weird is that.. but that one is half the price of the Delta flight I saw…. if you want cheap, that would be the way to go.

(ps.. I have a diploma in travel.. have been around the world a few times…..looking up airfares is like a hobby for me)

@cazzie Yeah…but I think all that’s worth it for a 10 euro flight:) And make sure you bring your own barf bag, I was in the window seat with a freshly broken arm on a Ryan Air flight on crazy Greek pain killers and I had to hurl but was trapped inside, especially with a broken arm, during takeoff. And they do not give you a “motion sickness bag.” Eek.

I’m spoiled. My husband travels for a living and one of the few perks is he gets to keep his airpoints. We get to fly SAS and KLM for free a lot, so I guess I have a lower tolerance for bad airline service than most.

Oh,, and poor you! Broken arm in Greece? Hope you had a good time, regardless.
