Are BluRay players known for being finicky?

Asked by syz (35938points) January 29th, 2011

We have a Samsung Blu Ray player that almost never plays a disc on the first try, and many of them it won’t play at all. I’ve been assuming that it’s the Netflix discs, but I’m starting to wonder if I’ve just got a bad player. Have you noticed them being picky?

HAve you checked the disc for scratches or marsk?

Yes, and we clean them each time, too. It just seems unlikely that they practically all have problems. We also update our software constantly.

I only have a PS3, but I’ve never had a problem with it. The only other thing I could think of is what version, or type, of Blu-Ray it is. It could be that you just have a bad one.

You might need one of these. They just made it Blu-Ray compatible!

If you’re going to get one of those things @XOIIO mentioned you may as well go ahead and get some of this stuff in case you have one of them wireless Blu-Ray players.

@mrentropy LOL! That stuff is awesome!

Blu-ray players often need their firmware updated. It’s a pain in the ass.
