Does your barber grooms your ears when you get a haircut?

Asked by MatChup (204points) January 31st, 2011

Outside the US like Australia and Asia there are many barber shop places where they trim your mustache, beard, nose hair, eyebrows, ears and even remove the mucus from your ears too in addition to cutting your hair. They provide these services as a normal routine when you go for a hair cut.
Here in the US, all they do is cut your hair. If you want anything else, it costs extra, but they never remove the mucus from your ears.
Has anyone had a different experience? If so, can you elaborate?

my barber shop has all female Korean stylists. Need i say more? They do the ears( not the mucus…see a specialist for that) and clip out all my “Yoda” ear hair. I’d give antibiotics a shot at the ear mucus first before layin them on my stylist.

I think you mean earwax. I can’t say anything about barber shops but I’d like the care my parents got at a service station.

I don’t know how I would handle someone dredging my earwax. One of my legs would probably start twitching uncontrollably…..and other stuff.

@woodcutter, Korean stylists, hmmm. It must be delightful.
@faye, yupp you are right, it is earwax.
@woodcutter, yeah as I got that treatment removing the earwax from my inner ears, I feel all my body twitching and twisting. I must tell you though that it feels like a good massage that I wish it would last longer. To do this, they used a long handle they had them sterilize first with very tiny pads that as they rotate them, they collect the earwax toward the middle of the drum. Once they pull it out it comes with the earwax out. Wow so much earwax comes out, it is unbelievable. But I wonder if it is good or bad to do this process. Of course they say it is pat of a good hygiene standard. I learned that this is a standard practice in that part of the world.

My dad trims his nose hairs himself, but his barber does his ears for no extra charge.

Someone else removing ear wax is just weird, unless you’re a little kid or have some kind of medical issue.

My barbers here do all that stuff. Except the earwax.

@Seelix, I also thought it was weird the first time the barber asked me if I wanted that to be done. I obviously hesitated at first, but after a lengthy conversation he explained that it was a safe procedure and it wasn’t a big deal. I am an adventurous kinda guy so I went with it. However, it has been my experience here in the US that doesn’t happen anywhere I’ve been to. What may appear weird to us here in the US, it may be a standard procedure somewhere else around the world.
