Do guys like chick flicks?

Asked by gothchick1 (139points) January 31st, 2011

Do guys really like chick flicks or just to get the girls to think they really care? I still don’t understand. Help me please.

Only ones that don’t suck. Most movies are drivel anyway.

Well it seems every time a guy says “hey lets watch a chick flick” its like the girl doesnt even like that because she knows better why is that

That depends on the individual guy. From what I’ve seen of them, the vast majority of chick flicks are terrible, and I hate being dragged to one. But if it has a good plot, good acting, and isn’t just a remake of the previous 938675 chick flicks, then sure, I’ll enjoy it. If it’s the latest Katherine Heigl drivel, I’d rather give myself a left-handed lobotomy than watch it.
I’ll admit it, I do like The Notebook.

No – or they wouldn’t be called “chick flix” – but there are some romantic comedies which don’t suck – like 50 first dates…

Of course we can! As long as it’s genuinely entertaining and has a mostly original plot. Most of them suck something fierce, but there are a few exceptions. I admit, Definately, Maybe was a great flick.

gothchick1's avatar

Ha Ha very funny. But can’t guys just spread their opinion instead of saying yeah sure lets do it.

Also, I recommend I Love You, Man. It’s a great “bromance” comedy that ends up pegging a lot of cliches of romantic comedies in a good way.

Depends on the guy. Depends on the movie.

I like movies with convoluted plots, great dialog, interesting characters and minimal special effects, big orange explosions and gunfights. I guess those are generally considered “chick flicks”.

incendiary_dan's avatar

@gothchick1 Did you actually want an answer or did you just want to complain about guys in your life?

seazen's avatar

@WasCy – I tend to prefer movies with lots of explosions, or space – but especially films with explosions in space. ;-)

Depends on who I’m watching it with…

I like sentimental, romantic movies, which often fall in the Chick Flick category, like 27 Dresses, Flashdance, and Sleepless In Seattle.
I only recently heard that films guys like are now called Dick Flicks

poisonedantidote's avatar

They are not my cup of tea, then again, I’m very selective about my movies.

SuperMouse's avatar

Depends on the guy, depends on the flick.

@seazen 50 First Dates is a great movie. My sister is a lot like 10 second Tom.

no never, it’s cruel

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Jeez, I’m a girl and I don’t even like “chick flicks.”

This definitely depends on the individual.

wundayatta's avatar

I like good movies (including chick flicks). I like chase scenes and explosions and fancy special effects that put me in worlds in distant galaxies, and I don’t care about the characterization and plotting. I even like some animated cartoon movies. But I’m really tired of them. I prefer my animation to look like it’s real.

And of course, I am completely representative of all men. Don’t let these other guys fool you. I and the guy!

My swinging appendages dictate not…..& I am adamant in that view. That’ll be a no then :¬)

downtide's avatar

The only “chick flick” I have ever actually enjoyed was “Elizabethtown”

Supacase's avatar

My husband will deny this if asked, but he likes “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “Sweet Home Alabama.” I think he also kind of liked “50 First Dates” and I’m almost positive he will like “No Strings Attached” if he ever sees it.

IchtheosaurusRex's avatar

It depends on the chicks. I enjoyed Practical Magic because it had both Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.

downtide's avatar

@IchtheosaurusRex you make an excellent point here. Elizabethtown had Kirsten Dunst, who I love because she reminds me of Meg Ryan when she was younger.

gothchick1's avatar

@incendiary_dan No I was trying to address you guys who think you can trick a girl to do whatever you want.

gespect's avatar

you are about to find as many guys that like chick flicks as you find women that like comic books and star trek.

DeanV's avatar

@gespect There are actually quite a lot…

Schroedes13's avatar

Some are good, some are bad. Just like every other genre of film!
