Does your behaviour alter all that much when you're drunk?

Asked by ucme (50047points) February 1st, 2011

I know, sounds like a bit of a no brainer right? The majority of people when under the influence of alcohol more or less lose any inhibitions. Can become a completely altered character, which is fine. However dependant on consumption & individual circumstances this is not always the case. Differing reactions allow for a wide variety of drunken behaviour, some good natured harmless fun, others can be a little sinister, show their dark side somewhat. This question was inspired by chatting to a jellie friend in PM yesterday. I stated that when i’m drunk I behave more seriously, not as spontaneous as when i’m sober. You could say i’m a boring drunk. How about you?

No. I just want to dance more and sing louder.

I don’t drink very often at all nowadays I probably have one small glass of something every 6 months or so ,but I have been drunk twice in my whole life. I am a very harmless drunk. I don’t get violent or overly emotional (a lot of my friends will cry at the drop of a hat after one too many and it irritates the shit out of me!) but I do find everything a lot funnier than I usually would. I love the feeling of being tipsy even though I rarely drink enough to get tipsy. I feel very happy and carefree when I’m tipsy and if I liked the taste of alcohol (I am yet to find an alcoholic drink that I can really say I like) then I’m sure I would experience that feeling more often!

I get stupid and ugly.

I’m the same except more giddy. I laugh more even if it wasn’t that funny.

In person, I’m really friendly and touchy sober. Drinking amplifies that. I become the ultimate “bro” while under the influence. I also get way hornier as if that were possible. Other than that, I’m pretty much the same, and even these effects aren’t extremely pronounced.

I might get alittle more silly…..I might :)

No, not so much. I’m just the same guy I always am, only maybe a bit more so.

Thanks peeps. I guess I don’t need to be drunk to act daft & fool around, immature fool that I am XD It is strange however that when i’m drunk I act way more conservatively. Oh well, such is life :¬)

When I have had one/two/three drinks and realise I am feeling a bit giddy, I purposely attempt to appear not tipsy.
Sometimes I think I am trying a little too hard, and people think I am not enjoying myself.

El_Cadejo's avatar

Not really. I become a bit more outgoing and slightly giddy if im really drunk but my core behavior is still the same. Like I would never do anything that I wouldnt do sober while drunk aside from maybe start a conversation with you. Im not one of those “holy shit wtf did I do last night” type of people when I drink.

and thankfully my brain still functions well enough to know when the fuck im drunk and shouldnt drive :P

Back in the day, when I could still drink, I never got what they call “knee-walkin’ drunk,” but I did get a bit tipsy. The only thing I ever did was get really friendly with everyone… everyone was my buddy! : D

wundayatta's avatar

@hawaii_jake I get stupid and ugly.

And this is different from your normal state of being…... uh, how?

Come on. You don’t expect me to be able to resist a setup like that, do you?

stardust's avatar

I become a bitmore giddy. Love to dance, chat and have fun. No drama when I’m under the influence thankfully!

We used to party pretty hard when we were young. My behavior stays the same, but my laugh gets slower if I ‘m drunk. My friends always thought that was funny.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

I get sentimental. I love to hug people when I’m drunk, and when I’m sober I’m more of the “stay the fuck away from me” type. With a few drinks in me, I’m all “I love you, man.”
I get a little bit wobbly. My mother recently told someone that I’m like a “rag doll” when I’ve had too much to drink, so that about covers that.
I know that I’ve posted this picture on Fluther before, but I still find it amusing. Always good to know that you have a wonderful sister to lean on when you’re too drunk to stand. :)

I’m more likely to get up and dance (if I’m in a nightclub or some place where dancing is going on) but that’s about all.

@wundayatta : Because I’m brilliant and lovely in my everyday mind life.

I’m not a drinker at all, although in my distant past I have been known to get very giggly after a weeny little babycham. That’s it…. I get the giggles and fall over and giggle some more. These days I do that without alcohol, and since I spend such long periods of time being poe faced and a bit of a sulky mare, whenever a giggly mood takes me I like to roll with it :-) God knows what would happen if I had alcohol nowadays, on top of all the meds, and the sulky mare thing…. would the world survive? I’ve a feeling I’d be featured (with footage) on the news…..

@CaptainHarley <hugs> I’m serious here it would not be pretty :-) When a friend got married years ago I had a little glass of babycham, and then I had another one, so thats two little glasses of babycham, yeah? not excessive you’d think….. well lets just say that it was late november, we were in the town centre at the hotel, and my then boyfriend, now hubby (God love him) suffered the indignity of trying to get me to stop trying to climb one of the lamp posts (in heels) because it had a flashing reindeer at the top, christmas lights all over the place but I’d fallen in love with this reindeer and he was coming home with me…..and yes the whole time I was giggling my head off…. can you IMAGINE what I’d be like drunk? doesn’t bare thinking about LOL

@hummingbird27 OMG! I just saw your post appear, I’m so sorry honey <hugs> xx

The only thing that I’ve noticed (because I pay attention and actively try to correct it) is that my speech slightly slurs, and I narrate my thoughts more. Neither of that is very much different from my normal demeanor, to be honest. Most people haven’t been able to tell that I’m drunk. I guess that that is a good thing?

I love everybody! In the past it caused some man trouble- yes, everyone is better looking at 1 am!

I become more talkative. I will talk your ear off! Then I fall asleep.

mattbrowne's avatar

Last time this happened was 25 years ago when I was a student. According to my girlfriend at the time I didn’t. I seem to talk a lot with or without drinking alcohol.
