Why doesn't YouTube/Google Video post full videos?

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) February 2nd, 2011

I was curious.

I don’t understand why YouTube doesn’t post full videos (i.e. videos that are 1–2 hours long.) It’s often frustrating when you have to hunt and peck to find the “next installment” and the “next one after that”. For most music vids, that’s fine. (I don’t watch those). I am talking about documentaries and shows like that. It’s watch the first nine minutes, then the next 7.58 minutes and then the next 11 minutes, etc etc.

At one point, I remember watching a few videos on Google that were longer (1–2 hours). Now, I go on Google and all they have is “YouTube” videos (!)...once again, sliced up in segments.

Does anyone know why this is done? Andy ideas if this will ever change?

I wish they had full shows.

Copyright laws probably.

The reason why you go on Google and only find youtube videos is because 1.) Youtube is a popular search so it’s going to come up first and 2.) Google owns you tube

As to why there are not full length videos I can guess it has something to do with space.. since videos are not updated by the companies but rather individual users and get updated frequently (this may not be the case anymore but I am sure it has something to do with it back at the start)

Two possibilities:
1) If Youtube does let you post that long of videos (which I don’t think it does), it’d take forever to upload it. More hassle than it’s worth.

2) Or it could have something to do with copyright laws. That would make sense.

I definitely agree with you – It’s such a hassle to find pt. 3 and pt. 4 and pt. 5 and pt. 6. Erg! There needs to be a better way to do this.

They used to let you post long ones, but axed that when the lawsuits started.
There is a section that features full-length movies, somewhere; Destination Moon is there.

I happen to manage a YouTube account for an organization, This is what I’ve found out: If and when you want to post any videos in YouTube YT, you must open an account. The longest videos YT will allow you to post without becoming a partner are 15 minutes long. If you want to post longer videos, you must become a YT partner. You can check all the pertinent info “here”:http://www.youtube.com/t/partnerships_benefits
