Is Turbo Tax on-line safe to use?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) February 4th, 2011

For the first time ever, I did my taxes on-line. I was hesitant about giving my personal information to a computer. My wife said, “honey, we have Lifelock, if our identity or money is stolen, we are protected, so give it a shot with Turbo Tax”. This I did. I must admit it was really fast and accepted by the IRS right a way. Question: has anyone had problems with filing your taxes on-line and using Turbo Tax?

I have used it for years. H&R Block online is also a safe good one too that I shifted to last year.
I have not heard or read of any breaches of security.
If you are really concerend, then go the personal route of a brick and mortar or CPA. Certainly go that route if it is complex.

I’ve done this for a long time. No problems what so ever. Turbo Tax is great. I am also a Lifelock member so I don’t worry too much. To me it is just like banking online.

Yah I’ve used it a couple times and am in the process of using it this year. Never had any problems. It even found a credit I could use, that it turns out my mom could’ve been using for a few years before (college tuition credit when she was claiming me as a dependent). So if she ever gets around to filing amended returns it’ll have saved her like $5,000 >:O .

Been using TurboTax.com for five years straight.

They encrypt all of your data in transit both from you as well as to the IRS (if you choose to e-file), relying on the same technologies to secure communication as major financial institutions.

Intuit – parent company of TurboTax – implements the Open Financial Exchange (OFX) specification to ensure your sensitive personal information is properly protected at all points.

Point is, Intuit knows full well the risk involved if their stores of your personal information were somehow compromised and leaked. It’s in their best interest to keep your info safe. I’m comfortable that they take that job seriously.
