What color would you paint a master bathroom?

Asked by optimisticpessimist (3909points) February 5th, 2011

We had to replace the green board on two walls due to a leak from the roof. The shower, tub and tiles are all white. That is a little too hospital for my taste. I will have to sell this house in the future and do not want to have to paint again before I leave; however, tones of beige are out because I like color (and it would not fix the hospital tone of the room). Blue is out because I just painted the main bathroom blue and do not want to repeat that color scheme. I have considered green but read that many green shades are not becoming to different complexions.

I painted one of my bathrooms a brick red color.Try that for color…I dare ya ;)
I think used Behr brand paint but modified the color to dull it down a bit.It is similar to this

I’ve always liked yellow for kitchens and bathrooms.

i saw a show where they did the bathroom light yellow (very light yellow) and the curtains were gray and light yellow. it had color yet looked sophisticated, and yet calm.

We used Behr in our master bedroom in Florida. It is so thick, it is like syrup and hard to work with, for me at least. Anyway, we used Behr Ultra toffee bar with an accent wall in dusty olive. I love it. My husband said we should have done it the opposite. Accent wall in the toffee and the rest in the olive. The green is really beautiful.

I’m a wild one when it comes to paint colors. I like bold and interesting colors.

I just painted 2 accent walls in my living room a metallic bronze, they look amazing!

I did my bedroom in a retro melon green with yellow, white and turquoise accents.

I’m hooked on the metallic paints such as Ralph Lauren.

Try something really different, be brave, take a chance!

Ooh something light & breezy. I like to shower in a room filled with vibrance & vitality….or maybe a mirrored ceiling could be the way to go :¬)

Thanks for the ideas. I gave everyone great answer just for responding as color is so subjective. I was considering yellow so that maybe the way to go. Personally love red any shade, lucille, but figured it might be a little too hard to sell later on.

A nice dark green looks really good in a bedroom. Check out the before and after in this picture. I think the green reall adds to the room.

I’ve used a dark teal green in my (small) master bathroom and love it, but now am repainting and with an eye to possible future sale, will probably go with a light greyish blue and beige accessories.

Any shade of light peach, apricot or blush is very flattering. There’s also the issue of how much natural light the room gets. I would stay away from the cool blues and greys if the room doesn’t get much natural light.,

If you are painting solely for the purpose of selling the house, I would stick with a very neutral color, light tan or even white, since it will make the room look larger. You can use color accessories, like towels or a dish with soap or shells, to pack a color punch.

I look at a lot of model houses (for fun) and I’ve seen many that have a very dark, rich color on one wall surrounded by 3 walls of a muted tone. I would love to see this dark chocolate brown paired with a a “barely there” light yellowish tan like the color of wheat. Or the color of Oatmeal These colors together would look great with the white tile.

Or this combination with 3 or 4 of the walls painted in a light blue or tuquoise, with one of the walls painted a dark chocolate color. Or use the dark chocolate color for the accents and the towels. This would also look great with the white tiles. Here’s another image with that color pallette

Or this combination of moss green, tan and white.

I like what @Kardamom said in the last line.

For anyone who may be still following, I just finished installing and grouting the new floor tiles. It was way too white in there. Went with a this tile. (It is prettier in person.) Three cream colored walls and one medium peach. Thanks for all the suggestions. I used ideas from several of them.
