Do you feel guilty for feeling lazy?

Asked by jca (36062points) February 5th, 2011

Do you feel guilty when you are being lazy?

I am in a lazy mood, hence the Fluthering…..(I have also been reading).

I get one day per week to relax, and I feel like I should be more productive with my day. Do you feel guilty when you’re lazy?

Lol…NO guilt on lazy days…I love them….I had one lazy weekend I slept all weekend, just getting up for food and bathroom, then back to sleep…it was great.

Sometimes. It depends on what I get done the rest of the week.

I’m too lazy to even feel guilty.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yes. Unless I’ve totally been busting my butt all day. Then I feel grateful.

By gum???? :)

just a bit of poetic licence with local dialect.

If I had my druthers I’d probably say “By George!” rather than “By gum” but I unnowhy!

At some point in life, I realized that it was my life and not anyone else’s. If I was being lazy, I didn’t have to think of myself as lazy unless I wanted to. My goals in life could be anything that I chose. I don’t have to write that book. It can be enough to just write. I don’t owe anyone, not even myself. If I enjoy writing, but not editing or marketing, I don’t have to call myself lazy if I only write. I can feel good about what I do, not bad about what I don’t do.

Yes, yes, and yes. But I am lazy enough not to care too much about the guilt.

It depends on how often it happens. If I’m at college working my ass off 95% of my days, I don’t feel guilty over a lazy day. I look at that as kind of a necessary thing. But these days, almost every day has been very lazy, and I’m starting to feel pretty down on myself about that.

@jca too lazy to give any of us a great answer? :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

@ladymia69 There. Now I really need a break! I’m beat from giving you a GA!

jca's avatar

@ladymia69: I gave you all GA’s as thanks. Now I’ll take one in return. Thank you!

Dutchess_III's avatar

I beat you to it @ladymia69! Now somebody has to give me another one! I’m feeling some life coming back to me!

I feel awful, like I’m good for nothing. I’ve been on holiday from uni for almost 4 months now (don’t worry, I’m going back to that hell at the end of the month) and I haven’t had the opportunity to get a job. I like being idle, but I feel like I’m just taking too much advantage of my parents.

Dutchess_III's avatar

There. You feel better now @genkan? :)

My dad is a lazy turd and I vowed to never ever let my life slow down to that level. Got to run!

cookieman's avatar

Yup. I have to force myself to do nothing and I’m rarely successful at it.

I never feel guilty for lazy days. I work all week and so I really look forward to days when I can be lazy. I try to make sure that at least one of my weekend days is a “lazy” one. Actually, I think everyone should stop using the word “lazy” because it’s a negative word and start using a word like “relaxing” or “me-time”. “Lazy” should only be used for people who are quite capable of working but refuse to do so.

If I make a choice to have a lazy day/weekend, then I don’t feel guilty about it at all. I relish it! However, I’m pretty darn lazy by nature, and that kind of everyday laziness I do feel guilty about. Not as much as I used to, but it does get to me from time to time. Then I have to kick my own ass and make myself go do the dishes or something.

@Mariah You’re recovering from health stuff. That kind of laziness is hard work! I have fibromyalgia, and when I overdo it by working too hard, I have 2 or 3 days of enforced laziness ahead of me. Don’t feel guilty about that. Do (or rather, don’t do) what you need to in order to return to good health. <3

No. The occasional lazy (half) day is actually a requirement to stay healthy long term.

I’m probably too healthy by half, then.
