What is your favorite location in Europe?

Asked by Foolaholic (5804points) February 7th, 2011

And why, if you please :)

Could be a town, city, monument, lake, what-have-you.

Well, my favourite place in the whole wide world is London’s West End, but maybe you’re just talking about continental Europe?

In that case, Place Plumereau in Tours, France, and Rathausplatz in Vienna, Austria, are two places overflowing with spirit and charm. Every city needs a square like one of these.

There are so many. Here’s just a few.

Buttermere in the English Lake District – mountains, lakes, bliss

The Pantheon in Rome – the most beautiful, sublime building; almost 2000 years old

Barcelona – almost everything about Barcelona is wonderful. The food, the old city, the Gaudi architecture especially so.

The Natural History Museum, London – an amazing museum, and absolutely free

The Millau Viaduct in France – a jaw-dropping road bridge that is over 1,000 feet high

St. Cirq la Popie – a lovely medieval village perched on high cliffs above the Lot River valley.

The Lake District is high on my list too as are Ironbridge and the Wye Valley.

Never been, so, I don’t know.

I would love to see Italy, France and Ireland, though,

Vienna because it’s an absolutely beautiful city with beautiful architecture.
I pretty much like all European cities for the architectural styles and energy from the people that live there.
Switzerland in winter

Scotland, more specifically, Loch Ness. I also love Italy.

I have not been to Europe in a long time, but I think Italy is fantasic. I really liked Florence, but would like to go to some places on the coast.

Well Tuscany is overall the most beautiful place I’ve been, and the food is also fantastic.

I haven’t really spent enough time travelling (it’d take half a lifetime) to have a favourite place, other than at home with my friends and family.

Hamburg is a very cool place to go out, London is one of the all-round greatest cities on Earth, Paris is perhaps the most beautifully regal city I’ve visited (Venice is beautiful but basically a theme park, it made me sick), Greece is amazing for relaxed sleepy islands & great food, oh and Rome is great for its little restaurants and hidden wonders… whew, I still need to visit Scandinavia, Switzerland and Amsterdam/Netherlands! and Berlin!

Well, I think it all comes down to what mood you’re in. The best thing about Europe is that, if your mood changes, you can hop on the train for a couple of hours (BYOB) and be somewhere completely & utterly different and new.

I have always enjoyed the quiet pastoral landscape of the Cotswalds in England. The little villages and rolling fields make for a very picturesque landscape. You could be in the Shire for all you know.

Paris. I love the architecture, the language, the scene.
Switzerland is a majestic place.
