What's your brush with greatness? Again!

Asked by jaytkay (25810points) February 12th, 2011

Who are the famous and the infamous people you have met? Celebrities, historic figures, heroes…

I asked this question before but we have a lot of new Flutherers and I bet you all have some great new stories for us.

Me first – my high school band played at a music conference in Chicago, and I shook hands with Aaron Copland. Even if the name isn’t familiar, I know everyone here recognizes his Fanfare for the Common Man

I almost saw Prince Charles and Princess Diana once in France. Does almost count?

@jaytkay By the way, shaking hands with Aaron Copeland is really cool.

Secretary of State Henry Clay was my great-great-great (however many times) uncle.

And I’ve met a shit ton of film stars. Most of the cast of the original Star Wars, plus a ton of actors, actresses, and make up artists from zombie movies. I’ve also met George Romero.

Oh, and I met a POW from WWII and a guy that one the Silver Star during the Korean War.

I hang often with players of the local professional sports teams. Biggest name? I don’t know. Maybe Randall Simon or Peter Mayhew or my personal favorite, Mr. 714 himself, Brad Halsey.

I met, shook hands with, gave the last of my mushrooms to, and was invited to party in the tour bus with Al Jourgensen of Ministry in the spring of 1991 after one of their shows in Ventura, CA. good times

Met most of the casts of various incarnations of Star Trek (conventions, many, many years of conventions) and of Babylon 5, Bruce Boxleitner sang to me (and have had lots of hugs over the years he’s such a sweetheart) met the amazing Mr Fry several times over the years, got a hug and a kiss on both cheeks from the darling Colin Dexter, met Sylvia Anderson, who is a proper lady, a really beautiful and sweet lady, she signed a book for my husband and he was so chuffed, totally over the moon he was :-)

Well, famous is relative. I had a long discussion with Bob Lilly’s wife, I spoke with him briefly,
I spoke briefly with Dick Clark, I had my photo taken with Whitley Streiber and Bob L. That’s all I can think of right now. lol In fact, that’s it.
